Exactly that..that is what he says at the moment, so do we.But most of my friends are teaching"pump, trump " etc.Is fart considered a rude word for toddlers?

OP posts:
SquelchyBodyParts · 28/10/2011 09:11

My ds, 19mths says 'trump'. But I can't see what's wrong with any way of saying it! It's not swearing is it?

whatdoiknowanyway · 28/10/2011 09:18

I'm not keen on it but I don't like bum or belly either. Personal choice, nothing wrong so with fart so far as I can see.

We slipped into using Traf, just one of those silly words that evolve when you have young children. My mum was convinced it was a real word (DH comes from a area with a very rich dialect) but no, was just fart backwards.

Cartoonjane · 28/10/2011 09:22

We say "fart"

carabos · 28/10/2011 09:24

We were out at a "do" last night and for some reason to do with diets, the conversation turned to farting. One of the women said that her DP refuses to allow her to use the word "fart" in relation to herself as farting is what men do. Ladies women "trump" apparently [hconfused].

GlendaGoose · 28/10/2011 09:24

It's not swearing but it's a bit of a grown-up word for a toddler to use.

'Blow-off' sounds nicer from a child.

A small child using fart is a bit like them using the word 'dick' instead of 'willy'.

jetgirl · 28/10/2011 09:25

We say fart, too. My friend says 'fluff' which I think is twee and vomit inducing.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 28/10/2011 09:28

Teach him to say 'guff'

Much funnier

Never heard of 'trump'. We used to say 'rudie', but denerated to 'fart' at quite an early age. (This is with my own dc, when I was young I don't think we called it anything. In fact I don't think we farted Wink

carpwidow · 28/10/2011 09:50

Why do you have to be "teaching" any word for it at this stage? Why do you think he desperately needs this word in his vocab?

herbaceous · 28/10/2011 09:54

My DS says 'guff', which is indeed funny. As is any word with two ffs.

FourEyesGood · 28/10/2011 09:54

"Blow off"? Grin That sounds far worse than "trump"! We say "trump", but my cousins say "fart" and it sounds fine coming from a small child.

I don't really see how saying "fart" is equivalent in the language stakes to "dick", Glenda. "Dick" is far more taboo. I'd say that teaching a DS to say "fart" instead of "trump" or "guff" is more like teaching him to say "penis" instead of "willy".

duvetdayplease · 28/10/2011 09:56

Ours says fart. Trump/pump are both pathetic-sounding.

Its nothing like 'dick' which is widely regarded as swearing.

duvetdayplease · 28/10/2011 09:58

He also says 'who's that farting?' and denies it's him which is classed as the height of sophisticated humour in our house.

GlendaGoose · 28/10/2011 10:02

Oh dear, I think I may have turned into my mother Blush

dobby2001 · 28/10/2011 10:02

As a childminder I have heard a real variety of words used beleive me Smile the best one was one family who taught their children to say they had "done a pop" not good in public as it always seemed to sound like plop and folk would move away from us quick Grin

If it helps i have noticed that more children are being taught to say "fart" so if there is an eveil smell thats what i use to ask the children - all i would say is whatever you decide please tell the childminder if you use one as its a strange guessing game to play Grin

carpwidow · 28/10/2011 10:02

I wonder if it's to do with which part of the country you live? "Fart" would be on a par with "dick" in these parts :) And what about "tits" - where does that one rank?

Dawndonna · 28/10/2011 10:04

I hate all the twee words associated with bodily functions. I taught mine to say fart. Nobody has ever said it's a problem.

Shortfingers · 28/10/2011 10:07

yabu but only because I irrationally hate that word.

BTW I think 'blow-off' has been the funniest yet just not right suggestion so far. What's wrong with a good old fashioned poop?

ViviPru · 28/10/2011 10:07

Chez 'Pru we say "done a tummy shame" after the crackfox in the Boosh. This will probably have to be knocked on the head though if DCs ever come along.

BarkisIsWillin · 28/10/2011 10:08

Shortfingers where I live 'poop' is what dogs do!

LatherRinseRepeatAsNeeded · 28/10/2011 10:09

DD says fart, we taught her it because she is such a farty little toddler and we needed to know if she was farting or had done an actual poo, and it saved us chasing her round the living room to check her nappy.

I don't like hearing small children use the word fart. We've always said trump for whoever's doing it in the house [hwink]

I did lol lots at the poster and traf though - very good :)

worraliberty · 28/10/2011 10:13

I irrationally hate that word too

We say 'blow-off' but a few of my DS's friends say fart...I don't know why but I just think it sounds rude/un-mannerly.
