Trying to be quick as need to do something quick but no idea what.

Next door neighbour is currently screaming at her daughter, can hear throught the walls. I mean SCREAMING.

Things such as:

I hate you, your going into a home
Get the fuck up now before I break your legs
I thought your brother was thick but your worse

Really nasty and violent threats.

What the hell do I do?

No idea if she is being violent towards the child, can't hear crying / bangs etc. just this screaming. Social services office is now closed.

Is this a matter for the police or am I over-reacting?

That poor child, how could her mother say such awfull things to her.

why call the non emergency

would you call non emergency for a spouse treating their partner in the same way?

ledkr · 27/10/2011 21:02

Isnt it amazing that we hesitate about calig the police when its a child but if we heard a man speaking to a woman like that we probably wouldnt think twice.
That isnt a critisism btw its just an observation.
More people should report this type of thing,i read a tiny bit in the paper today about a child that dies of severe burns after 2 weeks of them being untreated and ignored by parents.
The time has come to be nosey i think.

Op dh is a policeman and says they wont say who rang.

ledkr · 27/10/2011 21:04

A 999 has to be attended to. A non emergency may not be a priority if other stuff is happening but will be passed to edt or the duty team in the morning.

SacreLao · 27/10/2011 21:06

minny I called NON-EMERGENCY because at the time all I heard was screaming, which whilst horrible for the poor child is sadly not a crime and I had no reason to believe the child had been hurt.

Now I have SINCE been informed that the child was hurt it has become more serious, hence ringing 999 to see where they are.

The call officer just told me that the neighbours call is on there system and will be dealt with, WTF does that mean?

I asked if it would be tonight and she said it should be yes, seems an awful long time dosn't it?

ledktr we had a non attending 999 once

noddyholder · 27/10/2011 21:07

Sad Thank god you were in You have done the right thing Whoever said its a domestic is wrong

SacreLao · 27/10/2011 21:09

Whoops too late buggerlugs have just called.

I hope the SW dosn't give them my name!
Then again saying that I have no reason to believe anything would come from it, she must know she was wrong and that someone will call.

What are the 999 response times? They should have been by now surely, I would know if they had been. They would have to walk past my living room window and I am sat facing it.

Sorry about your extra t.

ThoseArentSpiritFingers · 27/10/2011 21:13

I think the response time depends on the severity of the call; i think they get ranked, but you would have thought that this is quite a priority...

what time did your neighbour phone 999?

ledkr · 27/10/2011 21:14

bugger im a sw and used to do edt but was only ever told "neighbour" so hopefully thats the norm.
had called not names. Would she know it was you from that op?

TheOriginalNutcracker · 27/10/2011 21:15

I recently rang 999 after being assualted by a neighbour and threatened by their father.

It was a good hour or more before anyone came out.

SacreLao · 27/10/2011 21:16

Oh feck!

Just checked my mobile (left it upstairs) and I had a call from a private number 15 mins after I made the social service's call, could that have been them calling back?

Do they call people back?

No idea what time neighbour phoned riding

Whatever happens in the end, it's good that there were two separate witnesses to what was going on.

Bohica · 27/10/2011 21:18

Horrible to read op, I hope that little girl and her mum get some help soon Sad

SacreLao · 27/10/2011 21:18

Right I called emergency social services at half past 7, spoke to neighbour at 8pm who told me they had already called 999.

So it's been at least an hour.

Really worried that I have missed a call from SS, should I call again to ask or will they think i'm a bit mental?

OP posts:
storminabuttercup · 27/10/2011 21:18

I feel sick for that poor girl!

I would have thought that 999 calls would require a visit, my old neighbour often called the police when my ex was shouting and hitting me, we had many a visit, with I child involved I would hope this would be the case and they would be there quickly.

Op you must be worried sick but have done the right thing!

SacreLao · 27/10/2011 21:20

ledkr She could proberly guess it's me yes to be honest, no real identifying information but wouldn't be too hard really.

She is definately not on mumsnet however, and I am not sure if she is even on the internet actually.

OP posts:
belledechocchipcookie · 27/10/2011 21:21

If you have the number for the emergency social work team then I'd give them a call again. Explain that you're really worried about the child.

Caz10 · 27/10/2011 21:22

Dh is in the emergency services and says response times are shocking atm although obviously this varies by service and area. Not their fault I hasten to add, just stretched too thinly. Hope someone comes soon OP.

SacreLao · 27/10/2011 21:22

Spoke too soon, 2 police officer's have just walked past.

OP posts:
NearlyMrsCustardsHardHat · 27/10/2011 21:23

Missed call could well have been them. I've had such happen when I called 999 for a domestic, they wanted clearer directions to which flat it was.
