AIBU to buy myself a men's fragrance?

I absolutely adore Issey Miyake from the first time I smelt it some 8 years ago. None of my partners have ever worn it, I recently went through a bad break up and today went to buy myself a bottle, I will be wearing it!

However a couple of my colleagues and my closest friend have all looked at me in disgust!

An ex of mine from many years ago used to wear Issey Miyake, and i used to borrow it. I think it's rather nice, and not even particularly masculine-smelling. I have a very manly male friend who wears women's perfume sometimes - somehow it never smells girly on him, though.

No reason why you shouldn't - and it also gives you advantage of not smelling like other women!

My husband wore that when I met him, and for quite a few years after... its a nice scent.

I wear Abercrombie & Fitch which is for either gender, and I wear Jo Malones Black Vetyver which is supposedly for men.

I dont like floral sweet perfumes.

It could be that you have put too much on though and it is overpowering, or even that it might not suit you (I love the smell of some perfumes, but on me they just dont smell right).

I haven't even opened the bottle yet, I was just shocked by the reaction but I'm not going to return it now :)

If you hadn't told them what you'd bought and just worn it I'd imagine you'd have gotten compliments.

discobeaver · 27/10/2011 14:56

They are disgusted? Really? Weirdos.

discobeaver · 27/10/2011 14:58

Pamplemousse always makes me think of a moose getting a pedicure.
Because I think 'pamper moose'

KatAndKit · 27/10/2011 14:59

Perfume is perfume.

The whole men's vs women's perfume is just marketing and packaging.

If you like it then wear it.

Yanbu. I lurve eau savage, one of my favourite scents ever and that's for men

squeakyfreakytoy · 27/10/2011 15:03

Ah, maybe your friends are worried that a whiff of your aftershave scent will make then unable to resist jumping all over you Grin

Snapespeare · 27/10/2011 16:19

pamplemousse rose is for guys?! Hmm

plupervert · 27/10/2011 16:20

Body chemistry will make it different, according to the one who wears it. A (female) friend of mine started wearing Fahrenheit (a "man's" scent), many years ago, and I liked it so much I tried it, too. It smelled different on both of us, so in the end, I wasn't even "copying" her.

plupervert · 27/10/2011 16:21

Snapespeare, do go lighter on that phallic imagery! [hgrin]

My husband wears CK in2u....I could drown myself in it.

NorfolkBroad · 27/10/2011 16:23

Of course you're not. I used to wear Eternity for men. I think some mens fragrances are gorgeous.

Shakirasma · 27/10/2011 16:26

YANBU if you like it you like it. In fact my DH is known to nick my perfume if he has run out of his own.
