To say no to my 10 yr old for these boots?

boots
I think heels are basically not that good for your posture or feet, and why get into it at the age of 10, she says she won't wear them all the time, only for parties. MIL thinks that if they are uncomfortable, she will take them off.
What do you think?

PMSL! Grin

Not a good look for a ten yo, even for parties.

YANBU!

StellaAndFries · 27/10/2011 09:51

My dd1 will be 10 soon and I wouldn't let her wear heels for anything else then dressing up, there's plenty of time for crippling her feet in heels when she's older.

dabdab · 27/10/2011 09:52

Btw - background is that if she looks after her clothes for a week she gets a star, after 8 stars have accumulated she can spend £30 on any item of clothing she would like as long as it is not damaging to health or inappropriate (eg teeny bikini).

Errr, no!

KaFayOLay · 27/10/2011 09:52

Nope, I wouldn't let my soon to be 10 yr old seen in those!!

worraliberty · 27/10/2011 09:53

It's not just the heels, they're far too adult like for a 10yr old girl.

dabdab · 27/10/2011 09:53

Yeah, I have to say, I don't tend to agree with her style!

OP posts:
jamandposterpaint · 27/10/2011 09:54

I don't understand? Why does she need a star for looking after her clothes?

2rebecca · 27/10/2011 09:57

No, they look too old for a 10 year old, plus cheap boots are unlikely to fit well so she'll have difficulty walking in them and will moan all the time.

diddl · 27/10/2011 09:58

No way.

Wouldn´t let my 14yr old have them.

pictish · 27/10/2011 09:59

Yanbu. They are not a style appropriate for a 10 year old.

cookcleanerchaufferetc · 27/10/2011 10:00

I wouldnt care about the comfort as my DD would not be allowed these boots, especially at 10.

WardrobeYeti · 27/10/2011 10:00

I wore heels all the time from early teens onwards, lugging around a heavy bag every day too at school. Did it for years thinking nothing bad would happen, until it did. Now my spine is absolutely fucked and I wake up in pain most days, and I'm pretty sure that's why. Don't be afraid to say no and keep them in flats.

diddl · 27/10/2011 10:01

TBH I´d try to talk anyone out of them as I think they´re horrible!

It does also say "older girl" & I wouldn´t consider 10 to be that.

Bu I do wonder who M&S has in mindConfused

HattiFattner · 27/10/2011 10:01

no. Just no. 10year old feet should not be in cheap heels, unless they are for dressing up.

Fairyloo · 27/10/2011 10:03

Oh god yabu let her pick her own shoes and learn that they are uncomfortable. Let her dictate her own style.

Mums on here are so controlling

cerealqueen · 27/10/2011 10:07

YANBU. She's only ten and will look like Jodie Foster in Taxi, not to mention damage to her feet.
For those disagreeing, its called 'parenting.'

KaFayOLay · 27/10/2011 10:09

fairyloo - I don't think it is controlling not wanting our 10 yr olds to wear them.
Personally, I think my dd has plenty of years in her to dress like a slut, she doesn't need to start at 10 Wink

meltedchocolate · 27/10/2011 10:09

Don't let her wear those! She is ten and would look like a small girl trying on mums clothes.

ladywithnomanors · 27/10/2011 10:10

Hideous hooker boots!
Marginally nicer than the Lelli Kelly patent tarts boots but still awful and with a much bigger heel.

Get her some nice flat trendy winter boots instead.

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 27/10/2011 10:10

If you would like your DD to look like a tart, then let her get them.

If you would not like your child to look like a tart, do not get them.

That is not to say that an adult wearing them would look tartish! I agree with Cerealqueen's Jodie Foster comparison.

meltedchocolate · 27/10/2011 10:11

KaFy - I didn't want to use the S word about another female but I was thinking the same thought really. There has to be a point were you step in (called parenting) and that is now. OP said she lets her DD pick her own things within reason.

dabdab · 27/10/2011 10:11

Well the star thing is done to help motivate her to pick her clothes up off the floor, put them into laundry or put away, empty her laundry into general laundry, etc. I am sure some of you will be thinking she should just do this anyway, without need for motivation, which I think too! However, her natural tendency is towards extreme messiness (think Francis Bacon..) and she has no inherent interest in tidying. I don't want our relationship to exist solely of nagging. This puts the ball in her court, and also gives her practice with making decisions re: money and how to shop for things. Her sis is very tidy and doesn't really need this motivation but we do it for her too for the sake of fairness. It is also motivational for dd1 when she realises that her sister is getting more stars!

NFW. They are adult style boots. They would look vile on a 10 year old.
I assume there is a reason why she gets a new piece of clothing every 8 weeks for looking after her existing clothing?

MonstrouslyNarkyPuffin · 27/10/2011 10:13

'Mums on here are so controlling'

9 year olds' bones are easily damaged.

If they were party shoes I might give in (on a smaller heel), but those boots would get a lot of wear in the winter. And they are a bit Jodie Foster in Taxi.
