boots
I think heels are basically not that good for your posture or feet, and why get into it at the age of 10, she says she won't wear them all the time, only for parties. MIL thinks that if they are uncomfortable, she will take them off.
What do you think?

YANBU, OP - she's 10, for jeff's sake, and you're absolutely right to be not encouraging her to dress like a sexually available adult woman.

How in the name of God can our society spend half its time in a moral panic about the peedos on every corner, and the other half of its time flogging high heels to ten-year-olds? Confused

Thanks for suggestions re: other boots. If it comes up again I will suggest others.

She isn't really style conscious, this is the first event that she has had relatively free rein to pick something out. I think it is a glorified version of wanting to wear mummy's heels to be more grown up. Dh told me tonight that she said to him that she didn't really expect me to say yes, but thought that she would try anyway.

At about the age of nine I nagged my mum into buying me some white ankle boots with heels, I loved them, but only wore them a few times before I got fed up of wearing them, and after that I never bothered with heels until I was about 17. It's nothing new, children have always wanted to be more grown up than they are, I used to read comics where there were stories about older girls and I thought being 14 was the height of sophistication.

I wouldn't mind a 10 year old wearing heels as long as it was only occasionally, although I would probably steer her towards ankle boots or shoes with a low heel rather than the knee boots, which I'm not so keen on.

My mum bought me little white high heels for primary school. They were hideous (I loved them at the time)
Them boots aren't much better! They didn't do me any harm but if I had a dd I'd hate to see her wearing them.

I never wear heels now - far too lazy to bother with the discomfort.
