To think that the anti greed protests have been a bit of a non event?

No reporting, no impact, apparently 90% of the tents are empty at night so even the protesters aren't really taking it all that seriously.

Dh is in New York atm and apparently there are only about 100 protesters down there.

Bit of a joke really...

duckdodgers · 26/10/2011 20:12

There has been some reporting on it here as a poor woman has been raped at the protest tents in Glasgow.

meditrina · 26/10/2011 20:15

duckdodgers Shock - link?

shoots · 26/10/2011 20:18

Yes it's a shame hope they get more coverage soon as there is a truly important message out there. Still too many people think total greed of the few and the disparity in living standards is acceptable.

That is awful dockdodgers Shock

Andrewofgg · 26/10/2011 20:18

The types at St Paul's are so many self-indulgent tossers. Most of them not even there at night when it's cold.

And it is dreadful to think that they may interfere with the Remembrance celebrations when you consider just how they come to have the freedom to demonstrate at all.

More generally, there is a right to demonstrate but there is a more important right which is that to go in peace and unmolested about your lawful occasions; even when those occasions are unpopular or just not very interesting.

slavetofilofax · 26/10/2011 20:19

yanbu.

The only reason it has made the news at all is because the protesters are too stupid to protest in the right place. They are just making themselves look like the idiots that they are.

grumplestilskin · 26/10/2011 20:21

I don't get it it has no clear aims and objectives just a load of vague waffley general ideas with no suggestions about clear steps to achieving anything

meditrina · 26/10/2011 20:31

The main Remembrance Day commemorations are in Whitehall and Westminster Abbey.

If St Paul's is closed, it would however have a major impact on the Lord Mayor's Show; so the protestors can expand the circle of those they are harming from the Church to East End community groups and a cross section of London schoolchildren.

On the general basis that actions speak louder than words, it has been interesting to see upon who their actions are actually having an effect.

alemci · 26/10/2011 20:35

also if they are stopping visitors to St Paul's aren't they damaging the economy and tourism. Doesn't GB need every penny.

Don't they have jobs to go to or do they have private incomes?

grumplestilskin · 26/10/2011 20:46

a couple did manage to have their wedding at St Pauls..

meditrina · 26/10/2011 21:22

It has been reported that the campers will be moving their tents around to clear the fire access paths and re-siting cooking equipment, and if all that goes according to plan and the Fire Service approves the new layout, the Cathedral should be able to reopen on Friday.

Bit of an own goal though for the campers to have taken so long to do this and stop the harm to the only body who was prepared to allow them to stay.

grumplestilskin · 26/10/2011 21:25

actually "own goal" sums up my impression of the whole thing!

Whatmeworry · 26/10/2011 21:43

What they are protesting about is important and deeply unwelcome by all the powers that be so no surprises that it's getting a fought ride, but theybare not helping themselves either IMO.

AuraofDora · 26/10/2011 22:24

it is like a guardian readers protest, with an additional nights tick box
we are slightly mad as hell, mad enough to put a tent outside st pauls cathedral but not actually as mad as hell about sleeping it of an evening...

but however half hearted it is it is dissent of some kind, registering somewhere
it's easy to scoff but how pissed off are you with the banking crisis, the main protangists just finished having another round of bonus whilst countries buckle under and collapse to maintain this system

it does beggar belief, mainstream reaction

I am unclear about what they want to happen.

This proves to me that their message is self righteous twattery not getting through.
