Dog off lead running at DD in park

AIBU to have roared at man who said oh he won't hurt her.

My comments on his dog owning skills included the fact there is no sign on the dog to say he won't attack DD, the dog should be on a lead, sign as you enter park and the dog did not return/ respond when he called it.

His response was to tell me to shut up.

I hate dogs on the loose in the park.

Have just seen that the Dog Control Bill has passed through the House of Lords - the reaction on all of the dog forums I'm familiar with, i.e rather like MN in that they are self-selecting groups of generally responsible dog owners, is that this is A Good Thing.

ditavonteesed · 27/10/2011 11:57

thetasigmamum clever to be so insensitive while accusing me of that very thing.

flatbread · 27/10/2011 11:57

Callmemrs, whatever. You seem to have a real attitude problem. And no, I am not making excuses for my dog, or fretting about any one else's kids.

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 27/10/2011 11:58

DBF You said - "how can people say they hate all dogs" (note the plural of person)

I then asked - "How many people on here are saying they hate all dogs" (plural of person again). Did I miss something?" As in - did 'people' say they hated dogs?

You then came up with one person "rubyrubyruby I hated dogs looooooong before I became a parent"

That's one person. Not people.

thetasigmamum · 27/10/2011 12:00

ditavonteesed re read your posts. You are the one who has been insensitive, demanding on the one hand that those of us who don't like dogs respect your feelings while in the same breath completely disrespecting and denying the validity of the feelings of people who are scared of dogs. This is why so many people don't like dog owners. An absolute refusal to even countenance that anyone else might be afraid of dogs - because you don't think they should be.

DogsBeastFiend · 27/10/2011 12:01

Largely it is, I think, toboldlygo - though I am still deeply unhappy that the bill includes the right to order destruction. Never thought it wouldn't of course but you know my views on the issue.

SardineQueen · 27/10/2011 12:01

I find the suggestion that the solution to this problem is that everyone should stop having children, bizarre. Really really weird.

Maisie, you're addressing your comment to the wrong person - I said none of that. :)

I wouldn't... I know all too well how many people hate all dogs. See it too often.

SardineQueen · 27/10/2011 12:03

The problem being, dogs off the lead in an area where they are supposed to be on a lead and not going to their owner when called back.

Yes of course the best thing to do in this situation is get rid of all children Confused

thetasigmamum · 27/10/2011 12:05

DBF I agree with you about destruction. :( It's an awful awful thing. I have been a vegan for nearly 30 years - I don't want to see any living thing harmed. I hate seeing dogs killing rabbits - but I don't want them subjected to the death penalty either. It's a horrible state of affairs. And it's mainly brought about by bad owners and (as you said) breeders.

ditavonteesed · 27/10/2011 12:05

I have never demanded that anybodyrespect my feelings, my dogs as I explained go nowhere near anyone whether they like them or not, I was explaining why pet dogs can be so imortant to some people.

DogsBeastFiend · 27/10/2011 12:05

Are you waiting for a reaction, Sardine?

Only you seem to have made that point more than once within a few short minutes....

Sorry DBF! Smile

Yes, that was in response to Toughasoldboots

SardineQueen · 27/10/2011 12:07

It's just such a bonkers idea though.

DogsBeastFiend · 27/10/2011 12:08

Tis no problem Maisie. :)

SardineQueen · 27/10/2011 12:08

So people who don't like dogs jumping up at the children in off the lead parks, shouldn't have children?

Even though they are unlikely to be aware of this problem until they have children?

This is a serious suggestion?

thetasigmamum · 27/10/2011 12:09

ditavonteesed and if you'd have left it with that I wouldn't have had any issue at all with what you posted. My issue was with your comment that you didn't think people should be phobic about dogs jumping at them. Which was completely insensitive and arrogant. It's not up to you to determine what makes people afraid. And you did demand that people respect your feelings, your long explanation of the issues you feel your dogs have helped with was essentially a demand for sympathy and had you not then been so unsympathetic to the OP you would have certainly had my sympathy and indeed respect. You lost it because you showed none of that to the OP or those who are scared of dogs.

YANBU if there is a sign to say dogs should be on leads. He should not have let it off the lead, and shouldn't expect you or your child to have to put up with it in your faces.

SardineQueen · 27/10/2011 12:10

I don't understand why the response to the OP could possibly be anything apart from that the man with the dog was in the wrong.

DogsBeastFiend · 27/10/2011 12:11

Okay, I'll play, sardine.

"No-one needs children."

Erm... it's a statement of fact. People have children out of desire, accident, through being forced to, out of a natural urge to continue the human race but not because they need children.

I need food or I will die. I would not have died had I not had children.

SardineQueen · 27/10/2011 12:11

Especially that the answer to the OP is that she shouldn't have had children, if she wasn't going to be happy about having dogs jump at them in "dogs on leads" areas of parks.

Confused

Intolerant much?

DogsBeastFiend · 27/10/2011 12:13

"So people who don't like dogs jumping up at the children in off the lead parks, shouldn't have children?"

No... that is not what was being said. At all.
