To be annoyed at some items on my friends wedding list

I really don't know if I have a right to be mad at this but I am. My friend is getting married next month and we have discussed the wedding list. She decided to go with white denby. Very nice. She was at my house last month and commented on my nice Jamie Oliver dinner set. It's white with a little stripe pattern. I love it. I have just logged on to her wedding list and there is no white denby. In it's place is Jamie Oliver's entire set! I am a little miffed.

Gift her yours and spend the money on a new one for yourself? Wink

Putrifyno · 20/10/2011 14:25

Pootling!!!!

2BoysTooLoud · 20/10/2011 14:26

OOh I love a bit of Willow pattern putriyno...

picnicbasketcase · 20/10/2011 14:26

When I was younger I don't think my family could have ever had a whole matching set. We had one plate from the 'pretty' link, one 'funky' AND a 'swirly' Grin How the hell did that happen? I suspect my mother may be one of those people who invite people round who bring cake with them and then the plate is never returned to them. This is why I have two of MIL's plates in the cupboard anyway...

PootlingAndDoodling · 20/10/2011 14:27

You know what i would love ... a tea set like you only get in village halls and at WI meetings ... they're sort of utility green and blue and wibbly....

Pandemoniaa · 20/10/2011 14:27

Oddly enough, unless you commission a dinner service in an edition limited to one, there's a reasonable chance that someone else may have the sheer brass neck to use the same crockery. Instead of being unrealistically silly about this, why not congratulate your friend on having the same impeccable taste as you? Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Or so I've heard.

FairhairedandFrustrated · 20/10/2011 14:27

When I got married, this was all the rage!

limitedperiodonly · 20/10/2011 14:28

My mum too OP.

Becaroooo · 20/10/2011 14:30

Sigh.

Cant you look at it another way?

Cant you be flattered that she admires your taste so much she has copied it???

SardineQueen · 20/10/2011 14:32

whoops pootling yes I meant your links!

My taste has always been a little on the interesting side so every time the 60s/70s stuff comes back I get very excited!!!

PootlingAndDoodling · 20/10/2011 14:34

Great isn't it? Makes me think we are just a bit 'uniform' these days (either white, off white or Kath Kidson fake retro)

ViviPru · 20/10/2011 14:34

this is my tea set :)

PootlingAndDoodling · 20/10/2011 14:36

Oooh that is preeeety....

rockboobs · 20/10/2011 14:36

pootling - !!! that link is horrifying!

SardineQueen · 20/10/2011 14:36

My problem is that I quite often look at things and can't actually work out whether I think they are utterly beautiful or utterly foul.

It's a bit of a prob Grin

ViviPru · 20/10/2011 14:36

thanks

SummerRain · 20/10/2011 14:37

she should get them now on sale in debenhams and put something else on her list tbh.... she could get them dirt cheap and get a load of nicer stuff as he wedding gifts.

Such a boring wedding gift, I always refuse to buy people plain white crockery from wedding lists, no way in hell I am I spending my cash on overpriced white dishes!

SansaLannister · 20/10/2011 14:37

Eh? Yeah, YABU. A bit petty as well. As to the question of white Denby and Jamie Oliver dinnerware, I guess there really is not accounting for sense of taste.

nickelbabe · 20/10/2011 14:37

Pootling
my mum & dad had the pwetty one, and my grandad hadthe funky one

my ex's mum had the entire 70s set, though, so don't like that one

purpleturtletoise · 20/10/2011 14:42

Do you mean Beryl Pootling? My grandma and grandad had that.

PootlingAndDoodling · 20/10/2011 14:44

Oh i do purple Grin

Fantastic - now i know what to look out for ...

purpleturtletoise · 20/10/2011 14:47

Floggingmolly · 20/10/2011 14:48

Did you think your set was unique?

PootlingAndDoodling · 20/10/2011 14:48
