no maryz, the stuff the lemonade man brings round in the glass bottles.

PetisaPumpkinHead · 19/10/2011 22:57

Have recently moved back home and was surprised to see the lemonade man still exists and leaves Maine lemonade at my neighbour's doorstep, which I'm always tempted to steal Grin

SquirtedZombieJuiceUpNose · 19/10/2011 22:57

Paddys pizza? Not as good IMO. Spoilt by the tomatoes.

It's okay wiggles - not big on crisp sandwiches, but would relish them separately. Fresh plain bread with butter, especially the thick heel. Zombiejuice - they're not a patch on ormeau but hey ho, they'll do...

I'm now sooo craving tayto smoky bacon, the most supreme of the smoky bacon crisp family. omnomnom. Come out now babytulip and hasten the arrival of grannytulip with her hand luggage full of northern irish bread products.... No seriously, come out now!

At least I can make fifteens and other sundry traybakes - guess what I'll be doing tomorrow!

HeresTheScaryThingBooyhoo · 19/10/2011 23:01

i have tayto smoky bacon Wink

maryz i remember my dad droppinga dollop of ice cream into my coke one hallowe'en as a treat (he threw a party for just me an my sister as mum was on nights Grin) and i remember thinking "what the hell is this eejit doing to my coke?" but it was great. we loved it.

Traybakes are great aren't they! I have Roast Chicken Tayto here if that's any good to you?

I love Ormo pancakes and Brennan's Bread, but isn't Brennan's from down south?

JsOtherHalf · 19/10/2011 23:02

Cries at idea of squirted eating toasted plain heel...

You can sometimes get a mothers pride scottish plain loaf in england...

PetisaPumpkinHead · 19/10/2011 23:03

Eating the heel must be really hard work though - don't you get a sore jaw? Grin

maighdlin · 19/10/2011 23:06

the best butter for soda is the country butter i get in the fruit and veg shop which is basically a yellow mix of fat and salt. fried egg on top and a cup of tea with 2 sugars and its heaven. [drool]

re veda, everytime i hear some one talk about veda it makes me think of fireball in the history of the troubles according to my da. if you know what i'm talking about you're probably laughing now too [hgrin]

PetisaPumpkinHead · 19/10/2011 23:08

Oh yes, 2 fried eggs, one on each half. Mmmmmmmmm.

minsmum · 19/10/2011 23:15

If some one could send me a care package of just a few things.
Soda bread obviously
Tayto cheese & onion
Iced queens
red lemonade
A brack
cidona
Galtee cheese

oh I could go on and on. I'm sitting here salivating

CointreauVersial · 19/10/2011 23:15

DH has a sweet tooth, and when he goes home he stocks up on Iced Caramels and Kimberleys.

moondog · 19/10/2011 23:16

They sell them in Tesco and I have just started putting them in my kids' lunch boxes. They love them and so do I.

MissusTulip · 19/10/2011 23:16

petisa - nope, in my fantasy it is the just bought loaf, so lovely soft bread and chewy crusts . Roast chicken Tayto is third on the awld favourite crisp list tho.

Also now having flashbacks to the Maine man's deliveries - my granny used to get an assortment and we'd drink them from her special glasses (little sherry or shot glasses painted with scenes from NI eg Dunluce Castle). She was teetotal, so no idea why she had such a collection of cool drinking vessels!

Off to write a list for DH, who will be sent on a tray bake ingredient gathering mission tomorrow...

CointreauVersial · 19/10/2011 23:17

Now I have to draw the line at Galtee cheese. That is minging stuff. Not good at cheese, the Irish (imho.....)

Gotarty · 19/10/2011 23:18

Paul Rankin's bread is horrid, I make my own soda farls and the dcs hero worship me for it! Needs to be accompanied by a big mug of tea that has been boiled for at least 5 mins.

minsmum · 19/10/2011 23:21

please pretty please could I have a recipe for soda farls.

Galtee cheese is not minging its .....different

MissusTulip · 19/10/2011 23:29

minsmum - bound to be somewhere on here
www.jennybristow.com/

I remember her cookery programme, and her one of her daughters was in one of my sister's year at school. I cannot vouch for recipe quality as I've not started looking through this yet but I'd be Hmm at the omission!

lettucesoup · 19/10/2011 23:30

Agree about paul rankin.....
About 8 years ago made the mistake of eating at his restaurant at Belfast Airport. Many hours later sick as a dog en route from gatwick. NO DRINK involved as was travelling with new baby.
Forgiven but not forgotten

PetisaPumpkinHead · 19/10/2011 23:32

But Cointreau, Coleraine Cheddar is the best!

Have just realised my mistake, I called him the "lemonade man" ffs - he's the mineral man!

IgnoringTheChildren · 19/10/2011 23:32

I have absolutely no idea about most of the things mentioned here!

I do agree that toasted soda farl with butter and a cup of tea is amazing though. Even better with a poached egg on it - the farl that is, not the cup of tea...

MissusTulip · 19/10/2011 23:34

okay, bad website recommendation, Jenny Bristow has let me down. Darina Allen has not:

SquirtedZombieJuiceUpNose · 19/10/2011 23:36

Yy coleraine cheddar. Thinly sliced on toasted Veda.

Mmm. I see a theme here. I may have a thing for toast.

Tomisinathewitchescat · 19/10/2011 23:38

oh no it has to be Golden cow butter for me. I still have my granny's griddle for making farls. My ones eat it as soon as it comes off the griddle
