To be appalled at the length of time my neighbour leaves her washing on the line

A whole lineful will appear and then it'll be out for up to two weeks at a time. It can dry, get wet and dry again several times over and be slapped against a concrete wall in the wind. Items only seems to get picked in as and when they're needed and by the end of it's time out there it'll be hanging on by one peg, with longer items dragging on the grass or hitched up against the fence/wall.

There's no real reason I should care - it's not my family's washing after all - but I just can't bear to see washing (something which by definition is supposed to be clean!) being treated like that.

What are some people like?

I've had a towel on my line for weeks

Perriwinkle · 14/10/2011 18:02

Of course I am using the word appalling for literary effect here but frankly I think that if anyone doesn't think this is really skanky and slack then they must have the same sort of standards and that's just eeewww.

Buy her a tumble dryer if it bothers you that much Grin

Perriwinkle · 14/10/2011 18:03

usualsuspect that's only acceptable if it's a towel you use to wipe your dog off with.

I think it's skanky but I just can't imagine being actually bothered by it. I reserve my neighbourly ire for things that actually impact on me (like buying an enormous, scary dog, then allowing it to bark all day and night and bite me Angry).

MurderBloodstabsandgore · 14/10/2011 18:05

My opposite neighbour had a pair of jeans and a shirt on the line for seven years

I wonder where she bought her pegs....

mustdache · 14/10/2011 18:06

'wipe your dog off with'

lol at 'I can't bear to see washing being treated like that'!

I leave stuff out. If it gets wet, then it has to dry, while it's drying again it may start raining again. Before you know it 2 weeks have passed.

I'm intrigued at posters agreeing. I wouldn't even notice washing on a line, let alone if it was the same stuff as the day before. Do you keep a log or take photos or something? Grin

hocuspontas · 14/10/2011 18:09

Hah! I love the idea of a Clothes Protection League!

LineRunner · 14/10/2011 18:09

I leave my washing pegged out for ages sometimes to let the sun bleach out stains in an environmentally-friendly manner.

hmmm I am guessing that you live near me OP.

LineRunner · 14/10/2011 18:10

But I can't beat seven years.

usualsuspect · 14/10/2011 18:11

[ shock] at wipe my dog off

thisisyesterday · 14/10/2011 18:11

why would it not be clean? what exactly do you think that air and a bit of rain will do to it???

ggirl · 14/10/2011 18:11

MurderBloodstabsandgore 7 yrs !!!!!!!!

2 wks is bloody appalling but 7 yrs!!!

Miette · 14/10/2011 18:12

"My opposite neighbour had a pair of jeans and a shirt on the line for seven years." Shock Did you go and check whether she was still alive?

LydiaWickham · 14/10/2011 18:13

OP - have you noticed the frequency of her front door step cleaning?

I fear this woman might not be as good as she ought to be... [disapproving northern WC grandma emoticon]

MurderBloodstabsandgore · 14/10/2011 18:13

it was grey and no longer flapped....

babyheavingmassofmaggots · 14/10/2011 18:13

I reckon she's hanging it out dirty and reckons 2 weeks of rain and a good blast of wind will get it clean.

Love a bit of slattern judging, me.

Perriwinkle · 14/10/2011 18:14

This woman is the only person around here who does it. Everyone else manages to take their washing in when it's dry and most normal people don't leave it out to get soaked if they're at home and can take it in. She's clearly the weird one as everyone else comments on it too.

No one is too busy to spend about 5 minutes tops taking their washing in if it's dry. Particularly when they have partner in the house to help them as well.

It's just pure lazy sluvernlyness - not sure if that's a word but if it isn't it is now.

she's still alive. I think the line rotted and snapped TBH

LoveInAColdGrave · 14/10/2011 18:15

I'll bet she's no better than she ought to be Grin.

mustdache · 14/10/2011 18:16

not many things do flap after 7 years....
