To be appalled at the length of time my neighbour leaves her washing on the line

Perriwinkle · 14/10/2011 17:47

A whole lineful will appear and then it'll be out for up to two weeks at a time. It can dry, get wet and dry again several times over and be slapped against a concrete wall in the wind. Items only seems to get picked in as and when they're needed and by the end of it's time out there it'll be hanging on by one peg, with longer items dragging on the grass or hitched up against the fence/wall.

There's no real reason I should care - it's not my family's washing after all - but I just can't bear to see washing (something which by definition is supposed to be clean!) being treated like that.

What are some people like?

haha I love this thread! I thought it was a joke until about a page in, and realised it was serious. Kept me going though, a twist and a turn here and there, couldn't put it away!

Nice one Grin

alemci · 24/10/2011 13:46

I would wonder too. i am pretty obsessive about my washing. I think it is my coping with life barrier. It would never be left out after 5 unless it was Summer. It is blowing about now and I would rescue it by 4 otherwise it goes all damp and horrible.

I hate it when you go out and then it rains on the washing.

Do you think they wear the things from off the line then like cold pants and crusty socks for example. yuck.

alemci · 24/10/2011 13:52

BTT are you using Personification about the washing and a literary device LOL. this thead is great :) I think i probably need to get a life too but I am on half term so what the hell.

Fifis25StottieCakes · 24/10/2011 14:18

lavandes you ask who gives a shit cares? Well Fifi clearly does. She cares enough to have been castigating me for a full week for having the temerity to even notice my neighbour's washing - let alone comment on it.

eh, no i haven't. I havee replied to posts with fifi or fifi in.

Maybe getting by just is not enough anymore.

Wheres auto correct on XP as the laptops broke with 7 on. Haven't got a clue where it is on here, Can anyone help?

I have loved this thread. The PP who asked if the OP was her grandma from beyond the grave made me wet myself a little. Grin

But seriously, do none of you speculate on your neighbours' lives? Gawd, I thought 99.9% of people did.

I'm not even that nosy, I just notice what's going on around me, particularly when I'm looking out the window and doing the washing up. It's called being interested in the world around me. That and the fact the house opposite is home to 3 blonde 20-somethings who have endless parties and take coke with their curtains open. I am very jealous disapprove mightily.

Also if you leave your washing out for more than about 24 hours, doesn't it get woodlice and whatnot living in it? I am pretty slovenly and even I take it in after a while.

They're hardcore, woodlice. They'd easily shimmy down a washing line and get nesting.

petaluma · 24/10/2011 14:43

If you're that bothered buy her a tumble dryer

sleepaholic · 24/10/2011 14:49

Oh god I'm 99.9% sure I am your neighbour.

For the first time ever I have a garden and washing line so I've being 'doing m bit for the environment' and not using the tumbler - only problem is I'm so bloody disorganised that the stuff never get's collected back in.

CumbrianCooBeastie · 24/10/2011 14:57

I've just been for a roll in the mud. Yum. Next I shall slither across the carpet and smear up against the walls. I might hawk onto the armchair too.

All because I fell into the trap of leaving my washing out 'too long'. Sad If only I'd had a real adult to define 'too long' for me earlier in my life. Sad

[hsmile]

Fifis25StottieCakes · 24/10/2011 15:35

Now that kenobie is interesting.

I think i would probably indulge in a bit of curtain twitching. Maybe its because i live on a council estate with frequent drunken antics and plenty of police cars.

Its just the washing i wouldnt notice or care about. Maybe if i lived in a nice semi with no action i probably would notice but cant say it would both me.

gutted Wink

kenobi · 24/10/2011 15:53

fifi I had a dinner party t'other day and there was a rush to do the washing up so people could have a gawp at the blondes.

We should pay them for the amount of entertainment they've given us over the last nine months.

Shall I start the thread "aibu to live vicariously through 3 women I've never met before?" Grin

Perriwinkle · 24/10/2011 16:00

I have no feelings about Fifi to be honest. She's just a cyber stranger and I tend not to develop strong feelings about them.

I just think she's made herself look a right ninny with her grammar here. She's also been very sanctimonous, despite claiming not be care what goes on around her - a stance which is clearly at odds with how much she cares what cyber strangers like me do and think.

sanctimonous?

Fifis25StottieCakes · 24/10/2011 16:14

I don't think you are, it could get pretty interesting. God i could start one with some of the things i see here and people wouldn't believe it. Its like an episode of shameless sometimes especially in the summer. The police barged their way into the kids flat on Friday saying have you got a girlfriend called Karen. He said er no. They then said who have you let out the back door as the kitchen door was shut. He said no one i only have one door and you have just came through it. Anyway turns out they wanted 14 not 15.

Perri, you shouldn't really pull people up on spelling and grammar. My dd is dyslexic and has other problems. I don't by the way i'm just not as educated as other people on here. I don't edit all my posts and read them back. I cant be bothered and i usually just come on for a quick look now and then when the 3 kids are busy. It also doesn't help i am using dd's tiny netbook instead of my laptop so keep hitting the wrong keys.

LadyEvilEyes · 24/10/2011 17:43

Never apologise for your spelling or grammar Fifis. I've noticed on another thread you feeling you have to defend yourself.
Your posts are always perfectly readable, and if people pull you up on it, it only proves their rudeness.
Even the most educated make grammatical errors, just smile and ignore. Smile

KatieScarlett2833 · 24/10/2011 17:48

Mine was out for 12 days last week.

I went on holiday and forgot about it.

was that the one where i was called illiterate. It doesn't bother me. I just find it a bit Hmm as there could be a reason for the grammar and spelling being a bit off. There's not by the way. No reason whatsoever.

Most of them are ok, i just can't be bothered to press preview Grin

last week i was on the laptop with dodgy keys so that didnt help. Now im typing on a teeny netbook so some are typing errors,

The rest though that require ,apostrophes, colons, semi colons and big massive words are shite.

I get across what i mean though in my own way Grin

oksonowwhat · 24/10/2011 18:26

Do people still use the word 'ninny'!!! Grin

The only one showing themselves up to be honest is perri, how uptight you sound!!!! Also, i really think pulling someone up for their grammar/spelling is downright nasty. My daughter is dyslexic and has just gained a First Class Degree, so it doesn't mean shes any less intelligent than anyone else.

I think you might need a good .....sexual release or something....you sound about ready to boil over love!

quietlyafraid · 24/10/2011 18:46

OMG a thread full of women cat fighting over differences of opinion on WASHING.

At least if you are going to get worked up about something, make it something actually worth worrying about.

This is hilarious, but it does make me seriously wonder about the real pettiness and how judgemental women are of each other.

Really, would you get a bunch of blokes talking about this for THIRTEEN PAGES AND 10 DAYS! Good grief, get a grip.

Well the inside of my car looks like a wheelie bin (it's a deterant to thieves - has worked so far) and I leave my pegs on the line. SO NER!
