I love this forum so much , I wrote an entire routine about it . Would you like to see / hear it ?

OP posts:
QuintessentialShadyHallows · 14/10/2011 22:56

Oh, how I would LOVE for Russel Brand to do a mumsnet routine.....

scottishmummy · 14/10/2011 22:58

i really like rhod gilbert

Harecare · 14/10/2011 23:01

Made me laugh.

FunnysInTheGarden · 14/10/2011 23:04

I would like Pauline from the LOG to be on MN, in fact she was at one time. In fact anyone from LOG would be a hoot

FunnysInTheGarden · 14/10/2011 23:06

even the OP's one and only post is stilted. Maybe her next routine will involve material about how we didn't find her skit funny and how anal we all are...............

scottishmummy · 14/10/2011 23:07

skit!great and underused word

Northernlurker · 14/10/2011 23:10

I think it's a misogynistic routine. Mumsnet does provoke this reaction though - articulate, intelligent women are scary so to get round that they must also be described as irrational and obsessed with trivial matters. Anybody who objects to this is considered humourless becuase they are unwilling to accept seeing women attacked by other women for the gratification of men.

Bogeymanface · 14/10/2011 23:13

Shappi is as funny as piles!

I totally agree with NL

Bogeymanface · 14/10/2011 23:14

Oh and Andi.....thingy, cant remember her name but she has fab hair and shoes! Looks amazing but totally unfunny.

mummylikescava · 14/10/2011 23:15

Well I thought it was very funny!

justonemorethread · 14/10/2011 23:20

So there aren't any women like the ones she makes fun of in the whole of the UK? Isn't she just satirising one part of society, or at least the wider public's perception of that part of society for the sake of a joke? Maybe using mumsnet as a representation of that part of society is wrong, ok not maybe, it is, but still... Not that I found it that hilarious and feel the need to defend it to a tee, but I still think people should have the freedom of satirising whatever they want.

Whatmeworry · 14/10/2011 23:32

So there aren't any women like the ones she makes fun of in the whole of the UK? Isn't she just satirising one part of society

Of course there are people like that on MN, the funniest though is some of those who just don't recognize themselves are on this very thread saying it isn't funny!

That is the real joy of satire....

allagory · 14/10/2011 23:45

Misogynistic? Bit harsh. She was being unreasonable about Am I Being Unreasonable? Irony, no?

BleedyGhoulzombiez · 14/10/2011 23:49

I too am failing to see the OP's act as misogynistic. That's a very simplistic way to criticise it. She is pillorying wealthy, middle-class mums, and using MN as a shorthand representation of that corner of society. Sure, that's how the country sees us: as a homogenous group of shallow, privileged women pushing Bugaboos and wafting through perfect Cath Kidston homes. And sure, we know it's mostly untrue. But the OP is cashing in on a widely-held stereotype. However irritating it may be, she doesn't need to wade through every page of MN to get a balanced view of the site. She's not a documentary maker; she's a comedian. She's playing for laughs.

Re female comedians, I love Susan Calman and Jo Brand, also Laura Solon and Jude Simpson. The jury's out on Shappi - think I've only ever heard a bit of one of her shows over the din of DCs shrieking so can't really give a verdict. I don't believe I've ever cracked a smile at anything Jo Caulfield's said. I've heard Miranda doing a sort of live thing, which I loved, but cannot bear her show. Oh well, you can't please all the people, and all that.

madmomma · 14/10/2011 23:50

God I loved the harry & paul series recently. The parking sketches and the 'I saw you coming' sketches made me weep. And now Made in Chelsea. Borat never fails to make me howl, too.

betheldeath · 14/10/2011 23:50

I thought it was pretty funny [hgrin]

chickensaregreen · 14/10/2011 23:52

Loved it! Thank you. Grin

Perriwinkle · 14/10/2011 23:56

It was OK but I think it was all a bit obvious and cliched really - i.e a very cliched view of how Mumsnetters are perceived. You have not picked up on a lot of the more subtle stereotypes around here.

Read around a bit more and have another try. I'm sure you are capable of making a funny one with a bit more research.

EmmaBemma · 15/10/2011 07:44

It's quite funny, I like some of your turns of phrase like "drenched in Chardonnay and self-pity", but I think you miss the mark sometimes too - could have been a lot more savage, I reckon.

EmmaBemma · 15/10/2011 07:45

oh, and Jo Caulfield, for example, is a twat.

KittyFane · 15/10/2011 07:55

I wanted to like this but didn't.
V boring and obvious.
This forum is so funny, you missed the subtlties.

GetDerridaThePeskyLurkers · 15/10/2011 07:57

I don't want to look, I know what it's going to be like and I can't bear bad comedy.

This though quoted by Wherethewildthingswere:

'I once did a gig at JD Wetherspoons in Luton, because I love the smell of oven chips and disappointment. If you've never been to Luton it's when sadness goes to self harm. It's where depression goes to listen to Nick Drake and weep.'

is lifted almost directly from Linda Smith. (RIP)

That's quite enough I think

JaneBirkin · 15/10/2011 08:23

Comedienne? Plagiarist.

JamieComeHome · 15/10/2011 08:40

I'm going to fashion a comedy routine around the fact that:

  • cream cakes are delicious and hard to resist
  • women aren't very good at parking, especially if they are driving Chelsea Tractors
  • David Cameron has a big shiny forehead
  • George W Bush says stupid things
  • men never put the toilet seat down

Help me to fashion it into cutting social satire, OP, I don't know how to make it funny!

JamieComeHome · 15/10/2011 08:43

You can tell I'm no good with the word-smithing. Have use the word "fashion" twice (possibly something to do with being a woman?)
