To be sad that Dh didn't get me anything for my birthday?

It's my birthday tomorrow. It's been a bit of a rough year and I was looking forward to feeling a bit special for a day.

Dh has just said that he needs to go into work extra early in the morning before me and the dc get up. I said maybe he could give me his card and present tonight and he replied that he thought I wouldn't be bothered this year and so he hasn't got me anything! Not even a cheap bunch of flowers Sad

He then went out to get petrol and came back with a card he'd bought at the petrol station! It's got a rude joke on the front. >

crabb · 12/10/2011 07:55

Happy birthday memoo from downunder. I remember some of your posts from your horrible year and am Sad your husband's not making an effort. You deserve better! I wish you much sunshine in the year to come.

chocolateyclur · 12/10/2011 07:57

Happy birthday - and may this year bring you everything you deserve.

diddl · 12/10/2011 07:57

Oh, I was going to say that I don´t really get the fuss that some adults make, but then saw that he hadn´t even got you a card.

We rarely get presents as we just don´t know what to get, but always get a card, I always get my husband a cake-and me, come to that, but he often gets me flowers/wine/chocolates.

So, Happy Birthday, & here´s Wine & Thanks from me.

And a Brew & Biscuit to start the day!

travailtotravel · 12/10/2011 07:59

Happy Birthday to you .............

Do you know what we need? A Birthday Cake emoticon ....

McPie · 12/10/2011 08:04

Happy birthday
Its not nice at all, I had the same with my birthday last month and if it wasn't for my mum making cards then I dont think I would even have got a nice card (parents phone him if it gets to a point and he hasn't asked yet!!!). I dont want anything expensive, the most crappy bunch of flowers left in tesco at the end of the night would have at least shown I was worth something!!! The worst thing is he should be leading the kids as even he didn't think it was nice when his mum said she never got anything from her 2 until they could buy it themselves as fil said she wasn't his mum so why should he???

architien · 12/10/2011 08:06

I hope you have a nice Birthday. Mine was a couple of weeks back. My mum died at 32 years when she was expecting a baby when I was there and this year I turned 32 and I've just had a baby and had a health scare not too long back. It was a tough year and for me a landmark birthday. I received absolutely nothing from my husband (and nothing from PIL and nothing from children which would have had to be instigated by husband as they are young). I've been a tad down ever since TBH. I'm having trouble being joyful and I've been sleeping on the sofa. I know how hurtful it can be to be disregarded. I completely sympathise. There's nothing childish about being concerned about the respect and love you receive in your marriage.

InsomniaQueen · 12/10/2011 08:07

Sorry for the lack of effort from your DH imemoo sending you lots of lovely birthday thoughts and hoping your kids spoil you today!!!

My birthday is sacred - my DH is currently working away but has planned something for my birthday as he knows I would do him in be very disappointed if he forgot.

I say go out and get your nails done - that always cheers me up!!! Have a great day xxx

LoveBeingAWitch · 12/10/2011 08:09

Happy birthday!

poorbuthappy · 12/10/2011 08:11

Happy birthday Memoo!! Kids have just sung to you... I think actually it wad probably a good thing you weren't here Grin.

PlasticFlamingo · 12/10/2011 08:19

We share a birthday! All the best people have a birthday today Wink

My son wrapped up some of my crystals and gave me thoseGrin

My husband sounds pretty similar to yours, this year, for the first time, I have demanded something pricey (i-pad). I think demanding is the only way to go, subtle hints just fly over his head.

I hope you have a fab day, spoil yourself Thanks Wine

Bonsoir · 12/10/2011 08:28

I think that there should be an extra line in the wedding vows for men:

"...to have and to hold from this day forth, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, to celebrate birthdays, from this day forward, until death us do part."

Chulita · 12/10/2011 08:30

Happy Birthday memoo and flamingo!

Loving the idea of being given your own stuff wrapped up Grin Last year DH broke my favourite mug right before my birthday and I could've sworn it was so he could buy me a new one [suspicious]

Hope you both have a brilliant day! Thanks

Dawndonna · 12/10/2011 08:35

Happy birthday imemoo and flamingo! Thanks

Hope you both have a wonderful day with your fab dc's (sounds like they have your genes rather than your oh's- definitely something to be proud of!)

Shakey1500 · 12/10/2011 09:16

Happy Birthday you two!!! Thanks

About 9 years ago on the morning of my birthday (pre ds) I awoke thinking that dh had obviously got me something wonderful as there'd been a bit of a build up. There was no card. Dh saw my other cards then hurried into the bedroom "AHAAA!" thought I.

Nope, there was still no card as "he hadn't had time" 364 days worth of time THEN he thrust £60 (from his stash in the bedroom) and uttered the immortal line "Ere ya go shweetart, go an get yerself summit noice"

He hasn't done it since Grin
