To be sad that Dh didn't get me anything for my birthday?

It's my birthday tomorrow. It's been a bit of a rough year and I was looking forward to feeling a bit special for a day.

Dh has just said that he needs to go into work extra early in the morning before me and the dc get up. I said maybe he could give me his card and present tonight and he replied that he thought I wouldn't be bothered this year and so he hasn't got me anything! Not even a cheap bunch of flowers Sad

He then went out to get petrol and came back with a card he'd bought at the petrol station! It's got a rude joke on the front. >

There is no way on this earth he is planning something. He just hasn't got it in him.

My older 2 dc age 12 and 10 are making me tea Grin

Dh is working late

I'm so with you. It was my birthday last week, and DH couldn't afford anything. I gave him a tenner to buy me a card, which he did but I don't know what happened to the rest probably spent on fags. Not even a bar of chocolate from baby DD.

He knows how fucked off disappointed I am, and even when he got £20 for helping a mate out tonight, I still haven't got so much as a fucking petal.

Happy Birthday for tomorrow though. Here Thanks Birthday ones. Not thank you ones Smile

Waterproof pants? Confused Just how exciting a birthday is she expecting you to have?

Well, very Happy Returns of the Day to you, for tomorrow. Can you afford to rent a second husband for the day?

iMemoo · 11/10/2011 22:19

Aw thanks for the flowers, they're lovely. I shall display them in my best vase! :)

Beastie Grin I should have said trousers rather than pants. Her thinking is that I can wear them when I go to watch ds play football.

My lovely, gorgeous sister who lives much too far away got me some vouchers for Cath Kidston! My sister is fab

Can I borrow your sister?

My mum salvaged my whole birthday this year with a Kindle. PILs forgot until DH reminded them the next day. Worst bit was, MIL picks DD up from our house one day a week when I go to work so she came in and saw the birthday cards and STILL didn't say anything. Then sent a bottle of wine with FIL when he dropped DD off. With the price still on Confused

iMemoo · 11/10/2011 22:36

You can borrow my sis if I can borrow your mum!

Happy birthday to you,
I have a hopeless DH too
Happy birthday dear imemoo
Happy birthday to you!

rhondajean · 11/10/2011 22:43

Perhaps I should rent DH out, hes really very thoughtful and mega good at presents, as much as he drives me berserk in other ways when I read things like this I cant help but think how lucky I am.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 11/10/2011 22:50

Yep, my DH is another one who has tried this before (his family don't really do birthdays). Cue much weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth from me over the total and utter lack of effort (a card and a supermarket Victoria Sponge would have been fine).

Now he gets a couple of days warning and a pretty clear indication of the sort of thing he needs to do e.g. Its my birthday on Thurs I expect a card from you and the kids and some flowers or a cake or one of these nice shower/bath items off this list (I even put the pictures of the items on the Xmas list).

Happy Birthday for tomorrow Wine Thanks

birdofthenorth · 11/10/2011 22:56

StetsonsAreCool · 11/10/2011 23:47

We'll swap for the day Grin

15 minutes to go! Have a lovely one. I hope he's lulling you into a false sense of forgottenness.

ecclesvet · 12/10/2011 06:19

Sorry, but I find adults making a fuss about birthdays utterly bizarre. They're for children up to 13, then 16, 18, 21, and then 30, 40, 50, etc. Unless this is a particularly landmark date, OP, then I think YABU. It's not unreasonable to want a day feeling special, but to demand it for your birthday makes you seem like a spoilt child.

Thanks Happy Birthday! Thanks

freedom2011 · 12/10/2011 07:25

Happy Birthday iMemoo! Hope you enjoy your day and do something nice for yourself. Cake for an afternoon tea with the kids, bit of cheeky internet shopping in the mid season sale, lie in the bath if possible. I often buy myself a cake whether it's my birthday or not. Can't beat a bit of cake. Thanks Here, have some flowers and many happy returns.

Alouiseg · 12/10/2011 07:35
