AIBU to make my indoor living dog sleep outside in a kennel now that she's moulting everywhere?

a dog that was been living inside is not acclimatised to living outside especially now the weather is colder. i have kept dogs inside and out and only our working spaniels were kept outside as they have much thicker and oiler coats from being outside.
you were the one who bought a dog that sheds its fur hardly fair to keep it outside. as pp said i doubt it will tolerate being shut out and will most probably howl the place down. give your dog a good brush everyday i know what its like i have a long haired German Shepard that malts like crazy but i don't kick her out. i brush her and hoover the house everyday.

Thingumy · 08/10/2011 20:32

you sound evil OP.

YOU DO NOT DESERVE A DOG.

I would think about rehoming tbh, some else can love her even when he is moulting

GarrottingItLaldy · 08/10/2011 20:33

One of my dogs lived outdoors before we got him. He's lives in the house now and I think he'd shit in my shoes if I even entertained the idea of making him sleep outside again.

Dogs coats adapt to their environment. Mine went into full shed when it was -18 outside last winter because we had the heating on constantly in the house. A dog usually kept inside, like your Collie, will not have a thick enough coat (espcially now she's moulting) to keep her warm in an unheated kennel.

So, YABU. And downright cruel if you throw her outside now. Take her outside daily and brush the dead coat out of her in the garden. If you want to speed up the process, give her a bath. The act of shampooing will help to loosen up the dead fur.

Hmm this is a bad attempt at a joke, isn't it?

SweatyBettyLikesItOnTheSettee · 08/10/2011 20:35

Actually Thingumy, she is a girl dog.

I can't use the 'B' word,it sticks in my throat.

I just though a kennel could be made nice and cosy.

I could put a radio in there for her,she likes the radio being left on when i go to work.

My friends Husky sleeps outside in a Kennel but then again he is a cold climate dog with lots of fur. Me, I don't have any pets so can't comment really

PeneloPeePitstop · 08/10/2011 20:36

Furminate!

ClartyScutter · 08/10/2011 20:37

if it's raining though you have to be careful the dog doesn't get electricuted

ClartyScutter · 08/10/2011 20:37

i'm laughing a bit at 'furminate' though, is that for hairy daleks?

Vallhala · 08/10/2011 20:38

I'm sure that this is a joke (I'd like to add that no-one's that cruel, but I'd be leading you all astray).

I have the solution to the suggestion nonetheless, Betty.

Please go tell the rescue what you've suggested you might do with your dog and then come back and tell us what they said.

SweatyBettyLikesItOnTheSettee · 08/10/2011 20:38

Can you get electrocuted with batteries?

Ok,no radio.

My dog moults all year round! Big balls ! I have a wood floor and I swear sometimes it looks like I have carpet down! It drives me mad.

Would I put him out in the garden? Nope. Its his house as much as mine, my DP knows he would be in the garden before my beloved puppy so he accepts it. Does get a bit grr sometimes just brush him every day (it makes no difference to mine, I could brush 24/7 Id still get as much off him on the last go as the first!) Hoover twice a day and use a lint roller on your clothes.

Sorry, you want a proper dog then they moult, you want a pretendy dog get a chihwaha or whatever they are called!

Pudding2be · 08/10/2011 20:40

Don't be so ridiculous. If it's that much of a problem take your dog to a groomer and have him cut short. That's what I do with my springer

SweatyBettyLikesItOnTheSettee · 08/10/2011 20:41

She is a girl dog (again)

Your dog mouts big balls, *Signet?

My three only moult fur.

:o

GarrottingItLaldy · 08/10/2011 20:42

I have a Newfoundland. One of the heaviest coated breeds in existence and bred to withstand long hours in sub zero temperatures. A moulting collie is nothing compared to the horror show when she sheds. When it snows, she'll happily take herself out to lie in it for hours. I'd still never expect her to sleep outside because she live indoors. She wouldn't be cold but she would be upset and would howl and bark the place down. It would be like punishment for her to be removed from her usual bed and the company of us and our other dog.

I hope this is a poor and misjudged attempt at a wind up.

SweatyBettyLikesItOnTheSettee · 08/10/2011 20:43

Well that is the problem signet.
Big balls of hair all over the show.

Do B&Q sell nice kennels?
Or should i go to Pet world?

Why do people have long-coated dogs if they're only going to go and have the dogs clipped? Confused Sure, I can understand it in the summer, for the dog's sake, but in winter....

Besides, my long haired white GSD would look bloody stupid clipped.

I told DH and the DC when we got a dog to get a short haired critter.

So they came home with a long haired, mad bugger.

I don't know if its a cultural thing, but my friend who has the husky is Armenian, and she said that in Armenia people tend to have their dogs outside as opposed to inside. But we in the UK are a nation of animal lovers so that must be it.

Vallhala · 08/10/2011 20:47

GIL of course it's a wind-up, just not a very good one.

I love the sound of your Newfie, btw. :) Is he black? Would make a perfect compliment to my white Shep if so. :o

We've a young Newfie a few doors down, a more placid dog you'd be hard pushed to find.
