To be appalled by the bad language used on this forum

I know I will probably be shot down as I am a newbie on here but I recently found this site whilst searching for something and found the AIBU threads very interesting. I find it intriguing how different people react to the same situation and it really makes you realise that we are not all the same, and the world is better for it.

What I have found so appalling though is the frequent use of swearing throughout these posts. I have been truly shocked by this as it is a forum used mainly by parents. Is this the example to set children?

There is something about swearing in writing which makes it so much worse than in conversation, although that is not nice either. It seems so much more deliberate in writing.

When did it become acceptable to use such language unnecessarily and excessively just for effect?

How long will it be before Justine fucking deletes this thread then goes sailing off on her cunting Yacht.

Mitmoo oops i mean MooMoo where have you gone.

Have we offended you dear.

spiderslegs · 07/10/2011 12:40

Hmph, turns out DH is unsure about the rosewater cock, one of his Dutch siblings told him, they probably coined it especially for him.

Chandon · 07/10/2011 12:43

Haha, "rosewater cock" means that you are spineless and soft.

It is actually "You're a LITTLE rosewater cock" It's a sublime insult I think :)

MapofTassie · 07/10/2011 12:43

Haven't read the whole thread, but I agree with Pagwatch Grin
Now can someone explain the Noddy joke?

Proon · 07/10/2011 12:46

Is it just one person KatandKit? I'm sure not. Anyway, horrid word.

spiderslegs · 07/10/2011 12:46

Aha Chandon so it is an insult then?

.

minimisschief · 07/10/2011 12:46

there is nothing wrong with swearing...

it is an expression of ones feelings towards something and a way to vent anger.

The only thing you should be teaching children is where and when it is appropriate.

Chandon · 07/10/2011 12:48

it is.

(reminder to Limburgsevlaai: Lulletje rozewater)

Mind you, it is something that you ARE, not actually describing the scent of one's cock

(God I love mumsnet)

Chandon · 07/10/2011 12:50

Back to the OP: I swear on mumsnet, it's liberating.

I also say unkind things about DH, my kids and the inlaws. I LOVE them all, but it is nice to VENT sometimes. Keeps you sane.

The danger is that you can get your wires crossed, and DH walks into the kitchen whilst I'm on mumsnet and I call him, affectionately (of course), a Fucking Cunt and he is:

ShockShockShock

Blush
LimburgseVlaai · 07/10/2011 13:23

Chandon Lulletje rozewater? Either I've been out of the Netherlands for too long, or it's a regional thing that people from Limburg don't say. Hondelul, slappe lul, berenlul - oh no, that's a frikandel. Anyway, lots of cocks but never heard of the rosewater one. New thing learnt today!

Maryz I suppose you could argue that levels of fuckingcuntery are subjective and therefore it's a matter of opinion if someone is, in fact, a fucking cunt...

I'm sure there are absolutes though...as in, if someone is an absolute fucking cunt!

I'm sure...I'm too new to have seen any so far. You seem a mostly jovial and agreeable bunch Grin

Yanbu OP. Some people, myself included are offended by swearing. Posters don't need to use bad language surely. IMO it's disrespectful to use such vocabulary as there's no need. If a poster is extremely annoyed they can just say they're furious, fuming or whatever.

Ormirian · 07/10/2011 14:04

It's not a forum for children. It's a forum for parents.

But I'm sure that point has been made already so I'll just slink off to the corner and swear quietly to myself out of earshot of OP and any children.

People don't NEED to use bad language...we don't NEED to do a lot of things but they are so much fun. I don't NEED to eat this massive bar of chocolate I found in the fridge but I'm damn well going to (diet be damned!).

As I said in my first post, it's not what you say it's how you say it. You can be aggressive and offensive and not say a single swear word, or you can use swear words in a non-agressive way. Words are words, it's the intention and context that make them offensive.

WinnieMac · 07/10/2011 14:11

Disagree. Some words are downright offensive, regardless of intention and context. Sad

ScarletLady01 · 07/10/2011 14:11

Can I just add...did anyone see Caprice saying "cunt" on This Morning?? Loved it.

ScarletLady01 · 07/10/2011 14:12

WinnieMac Fair enough, maybe I didn't think that through. I was referring to swear words, not racial slurs or anything like that. Sorry for not being clear.

WinnieMac · 07/10/2011 14:13

" i mean MooMoo where have you gone.

Have we offended you dear. "

That, for instance, is 'intended' to be funny, and is in the 'context' of in-jokes and having a larf. In practice, though, it's just horrible.
