To be appalled by the bad language used on this forum

I know I will probably be shot down as I am a newbie on here but I recently found this site whilst searching for something and found the AIBU threads very interesting. I find it intriguing how different people react to the same situation and it really makes you realise that we are not all the same, and the world is better for it.

What I have found so appalling though is the frequent use of swearing throughout these posts. I have been truly shocked by this as it is a forum used mainly by parents. Is this the example to set children?

There is something about swearing in writing which makes it so much worse than in conversation, although that is not nice either. It seems so much more deliberate in writing.

When did it become acceptable to use such language unnecessarily and excessively just for effect?

Why have I got ' I believe the children are our future, teach them well and let them lead the way' running through my fecking head. Someone make it stop.

Won't anyone think of the children?!

BatsUpMeNightie · 06/10/2011 21:29

You're all offended by the language on this thread? Job bloody well done then. Incidentally - the first word I say every day, before my eyes are even open, is FUCK. It seems appropriate somehow!

weevilswobble · 06/10/2011 21:29

Why are you here????
There are lots a nice threads by the very people who you are literally begging to be insulted by on this thread.
It says more about you and your negative paranoid point of view than what it says about normal people who just occasionally vent a bit of frustration here.
I like threads about sewing, cooking, favourite hymns from childhood etc etc. You find what you are looking for. You are looking for negativity and finding it. Reflects sadly on you. Be nice to yourself and surround yourself with positivity and see the positive in the incredible sisterly support most people find here on MN. Smile

oksonowwhat · 06/10/2011 21:34

Moo, as you say, we are all different and thank god for that! I've been a mumsnetter from about day 1, a few different name changes along the way. I swear on and off i suppose, when i feel like itSmile

It makes me smile when i read someone having a good old swear for some reason, but i think thats because they are mumsnetters and you kind of get to know everyoneSmile

Also, this site accepts people for who they are, no airs and graces. I for one love itSmile

Welcome by the way..............did i swear?

oksonowwhat · 06/10/2011 21:35

Having just read the last few messages.........you lot are really going for it tonightSmile!

VajazzleMyBroomstick · 06/10/2011 21:35

I did think the M lady would have been banned by now, but she keeps bloody coming back.

WinnieMac · 06/10/2011 21:36

Oh dear. I don't like the swearing either - in fact, I heartily dislike it. I don't swear, and I don't like reading it or hearing it. It's one of my gripes with MN. But I find that if you steer clear of contentious topics, you can generally avoid the swearing.

BobblyGussets · 06/10/2011 21:37

I decided long ago, never to wank in anyone's shaddow, if I fail, if I suck cock....

spiderslegs · 06/10/2011 21:39

I do wonder what the future holds for us if this is they way forward.

I would be tre-fucking-bastard-cunting-beefcurtain-dangling-mendously pleased if the future held a group of articulate women who could curse with aplomb, make me larf & larf and use the past participle correctly.

YADBU.
