I heard this loads on Xfactor tonight. "I want to get though and be a somebody, otherwise Im a nobody"!
I felt quite sad watching it and hearing people say this. Surely you can be a somebody, without being famous :(

I heard that and thought the same! But maybe they have all been encouraged to say this by researchers/ workers on the show?

Roseflower · 02/10/2011 23:42

I said the exact same thing!

wannabefree · 02/10/2011 23:46

I was rolling my eyes at the tears and the "It was very hard growing up. I didn't have all the things everyone else had."

Nobody starves in this country. If it was someone from the third world crying that they didn't have clean drinking water etc, I'd have sympathy. He was probably talking about not having the latest Xbox game Hmm.

I thought this was a Nobdies thread Grin

PamBeesly · 02/10/2011 23:51

I also heard the contestant, Melanie (17) say that if she didn't get it, then there would be nothing for her and she'd have to go back to school...she is 17 she should be in school.
I hate when they harp on about making their family proud, will their family disown them if they don't get through!
....and the crying.... but I still love it!

When I was growing up it didn't occur to any of us to want to be famous - but we did all want to be noticed by Donny Osmond/David Cassidy/Bay City Rollers and marry one of them! We were very naive.
It is very odd how "fame" has become the aspirational goal of young 'uns nowadays - and rather sad too.

Honeydragon · 02/10/2011 23:59

I've now got "You're nobody till somebody loves you" running on a loop in my head now Grin

UANBU though

LeBOF · 03/10/2011 00:01

Pam, yes, I remember snorting at her saying that their life would be over at 17 if they didn't get through. Nothing like the melodrama of a teenager, eh?

Honeydragon · 03/10/2011 00:05

dh and I were talking about this tonight, it is great to support your children in a dream, but if that was my baby talking about letting us down if they didn't get through, I'd be devastated Sad

PamBeesly · 03/10/2011 00:05

I know but would we be without it?? Grin I think I watch it for those stupid one liners they are given to say! But what about Jade not going through, a real travesty!
