Having had 'dealings' with both HMRC and the CSA recently over pretty substantial sums of money I've come to the conclusion they're run by morons, staffed by monkeys and that the government should just butt out of household finances.

They cannot really, unless they abandon the welfare state.

The CSA could be run alot better, granted. It isn't an easy thing to set up because it does work for some. Everyone's circumstances are different. This is the reason why maintainence isn't calculated when assessing tax credits.

YANBU - to say they are staffed by monkeys. In fact actually you are as I like monkeys and the comparison is unfair to their sweet little furry faces

If you accept the concept of taxation, there's going to be an agency collecting the tax. I've had a few occasions to speak to HMRC and haven't had a problem. If the people you've spoken to are below-par, make a complaint to the agency rather than ranting into thin air on a message board. Nothing will change otherwise.
