To think horrid Henry jokebooks inappropriate for year 1 children-or being precious?

They have "too rude for parents" on the cover and phrases like "shut up" and plenty of toilet humour. I'm prone to being a bit of a prude on this kind of stuff but want honest opinions. Have bought from book people for christmas gifts and now not sure.

I suppose they're not to my taste but they are not inappropriate and my yr1 & 2 DC's love them so that has to be a good thing.

These kind of books have certainly encouraged mine to develop a love of reading and they understand that the books are funny but only for them IYSWIM!

It's a personal choice, I don't think they are too rude and you do.
Don't give them if it will irritate you to be asked to read them to an enthusiastic audience, there are hundreds of lovely books aimed at all ages of children, so choose something you will both enjoy instead.

I think you're being a bit precious. Speaking as a mum to a year one boy. There will be nothing in the book that they won't have already picked up in the playground at school iyswim. Ds has just turned 6, we got him a joke book and the horrid Henry fun book. He is a reluctant reader of the ort books but will happily try to read me a joke, especially if he thinks it might be a bit rude.

I think I'll just be choosy about who gets them! Dd has been reading horrid Henry and I definitely don't think it's too rude-just an appealing element of toilet humour - in the joke books at least. I think if I can survive reading "the haughtiest girl in the school" when I was little without going off the rails I think we'll be okay.
