to think when peimary school kids take off their jumpers at school they shoukd pyt them on their peg

Not in a massive heap on the table so that the jumpers get all mixed up.

Grrrr twice this has happened now. Last time It was shoes. I mean shoes ffs.

DS1 came home yesterday with anprher childs name wrote in it, yes the jumpers are thr same but still.

I agree but YABU I think if they can't read their names.
If that's the case, sew a red button or something inside so he can recognise his from every one elses.

Yes of course they should. And they are probably told to put then tidily every single time.

It's a shame large groups of children don't always follow instructions. I'm not a teacher/TA, so have no direct experience of crowd control in school. How did you do it better? Can you (tactfully) of course, tell this school how you did it?

my son put his on the peg and still went missing yesterday grrhhhhh and last year brand new coat was taken too,never did get it back.

Oh no the child whos jumper my son came home ins mum said he didnt come home with his either, he had someone elses but she FAILED to fetch it back. So now i have to wait to see if it turns up at the of day if not, BUY a other one.

Bloody disgusting. Its 3 weeks into the school year and i have to fork out another 10 bastard pounds for another pissing school jumper.

He can recognise his name, he always looks to make sure its his as we have taught him since nursery adn he said it wasnt his name, he mentioned it to the teacher and she said 'tell your mum'

So bloody annoyed!!

depends on the school and the school set up surely? At DD's school the cloakroom is cramped, the pegs are very close together and it is absolutely normal for items to fall off and left on the floor or be put back on the nearest peg and/or for children to pick items off the wrong peg. Both my DC have lost (never to be seen again) items from pegs. On the other hand there is a jumper box in class and neither child has lost anything out of that. Also easy for teacher to do a quick give out of any that are not claimed at the end of the day (assuming they are named of course ...)

Well my DS' is named in black ink inside. The teacher should give the jumpers out by reading the name, no name in the back then they will get it when everyone else gets the right jumper. But it doesnt work like that does it?! Grrrr

They probably take them off at playtime and dump them in a pile in the corner of the playground.

Surely the right one will turn up in the end?!

In my experience we have always had a jumper box and for the littlies, gone through it quickly at the end of the day for those who struggle. Or at my last school, they always had to put jumpers in their trays. I have to say, if a child said they were missing something, I have never come across a teacher that just said "tell your Mum" Hmm

My DS has just started school nursery but he's got £2.50 sweatshirts from M&S atm as not forking out almost £10 a sweatshirt for school logo ones whilst he's so little.

IME (DD1 in Y4) now, I would suggest you:
(a) get 3 or 4 jumpers - from 2nd hand uniform if poss, or 2 logo-ed ones and 2 cheap supermarket ones. DD2 has 4 cardigans at £1 a go from the 2nd hand uniform.
(b) don't immediately assume it's lost for good or been stolen when your DC comes home with the wrong jumper, which they will do, at least once a week!
(c) do keep looking, and encouraging your DC to look for the lost items - sometimes things take a while to surface, depending on where they've been taken off (eg. DD1 left one in the lunch hall which took me almost a whole term to track down)
(d) try not to worry about it too much - it's inevitable, with several hundred children in the school, all with the same jumpers, and most of whom are probably not that good at keeping track of their belongings, that things go missing. IME they do usually turn up in the end.
(e) don't assume that it's the teacher's job to make sure your DC have the right clothing - it's your DCs job to keep tabs on it, which they will gradually learn in the end
(e) if you have several jumpers, and they are ALL missing, just send your DCs in in something approximating the right colour and explain

Get 2nd hand clothes and put an easy to see marker on, ideally that can be seen when another kid is wearing it:)

dd2 has lost two branded school cardigans this term. i am not amused. especially as both have had her name in them and some other child has taken them

Putting them on their pegs is the last place to stick them. Cloakroom pegs are notoriously ill-equipped for the modern-day rucksacks that lots of kids use. They were designed for string old-fashioned string plimsoll bags that we used in the 70s. By the time those bulky bags and coats have been hung up, there's no room for anything else. Also, jumpers and sweatshirts don't have proper "label hooks" that attach to the metal peg, so they just slide off as soon as anyone walks past. They then land on the floor where the rest of the class tread on them.

My class know they have to either have their jumper on them (i.e. wearing it) or it has to be in their tray. I don't allow them to just pile them up in the classroom.

Lunchtimes however, are a different matter but I can't watch them all the time.

YANBU to be annoyed about losing jumpers, they are expensive and especially when they have names in them then they should be returned, unfortunatley some parents are not as honest as you'd wish.

I buy a lot of second hand uniform for dd since I figure some of it is bound to get lost or damaged.

So far this term I have found a pair of socks and a shirt in my classroom, neither of which have been "claimed". And I teach year 6!

You need to give it a few more days yet. I wash weekly (if not sometimes just over a week), therefore if the wrong jumper came to our house and went straight in the laundry bag then it could take a good few days before I got around to returning it especially if you factor in the piles of dry clothes that I leave on the spare bed for days on end

Logo'd school uniform, According to the DofE has to be in line with and of an equitable price to non-logo'd supermarket stuff in order not to disadvantage low income families.

The trouble is, school governors thing they are God - I can go with a tie and a blazer but logoed and mongrammed PE kits are just a step too far.

I work in a school and tell the children every time, either put your jumper on or hang it on your peg. Unfortunately I can't follow them each time to make sure it goes on their peg. Unfortunately, 9 times out of 10 it doesn't make it to the peg.

It's silly of the teacher to insist on the jumper going home if your son told them it wasn't his though.

It turned up a parent brought it back in ob friday morning. Glad we got it back.
