To be pissed off I am being outwitted by a slug/snail?

We have lived in this house for three years. Most mornings I have come down to a lovely silvery trail in my kitchen that has sometimes ventured onto the hall carpet. This morning it was all over my oven mitt and up DD's brand new winter coat, hanging in the hallway!

I have searched high and low for this little blighter, pulled appliances out and I CAN'T BLOODY FIND IT. It's driving me doolally!

Yanbu - they are dastardly little blighters! I hope when you do find it you give it a good sprinkling with salt!

AIBU in that I want to put GPS trackers on the snails in my garden just to see how far they go? they move like lightning when you aren't looking....and I'm sure they are plotting to take over the world....

There will probably be more than one as well. You can always try putting salt around the perimeters of the house, or anywhere you think they may be coming in. Also try putting slug pellets in your garden, or put a beer trap down [more humane]. There is a lot of slugs about at the moment but they should die off a little when the cold weather comes.

PierceDeere that just reminded me of a rather disturbing book I read about slugs as a teen!

They were getting in to our house via the kitchen sink plughole and overflow. Caught one of the slimy little fuckers one night and screamed the house down. Soon sorted after a few nights of putting salt in and around the plug and overflow holes

I must say I wasn't as bothered as you sound, rats and/or mice are my nightmare.

We used to find trails all over the rug and up the stereo speakers and all sorts, I know it sounds daft but it took us ages to actually digest the fact it was really being caused by slugs.

Anyway as DS2 was very wakeful at the time I went downstairs at night and at some point found the offender and threw it outside, it was massive actually and had a little face and tentacle ears, not like a common garden slug.

Around the same time we found one in the daytime and also threw it into the garden, it too was huge.

My neighbour had the same problem and put large amounts of salt down, eventually she came down and found seven of the blighters dead on the floor.

We had a flood about 12 months ago and it brought them in I got up to do the baby's bottle one night and wondered how the hell there was a poo in the kitchen (that I stood) in how it had got there. It clearly wasn't a poo, but a massive slug

Due to having to get up through the night for a loooooong time I eventually got rid of them, one by one. I found they came out anywhere between 11pm and 3am(ish)

Don't wish to alarm you but I thought after the first one that was it, gone. But it took weeks if not months to get rid of the bastards.

This is the first house we have ever had them in, moving in a couple of months though.

The only time we had them before is when they hitched a ride on my dog's tail, but he has been gone 2 years!

They are indeed revolting. I've found some in the house during the dayand have been surprised at how tiny they can be.

My worst experience was coming downstairs in the middle of the night to get a glass of water and there was a big fat one of the buggers in an unwashed frying pan on the cooker! I was nearly sick!! (Particularly as DH sometimes re-uses the frying pan without washing it out first).
They are very hard to get rid of - i've never succeeded.

Urgh, do you think they'll like tesco Waitrose own brand lager, as that's all a have?

I too outwitted a slug plague by coating the entire perimeter of the kitchen (which was my problem area) in an inch wide layer of salt. I spent about three weeks cleaning up dead slugs in the morning [ewwww] and due to the location of the dead ones tracked down where they were getting in. Blocked it up, took a few more days for all the ones that were already inside to find their way onto my salt defense lines, after that, no more slugs!

In a funny way I am relieved I am not alone in suffering this plague!

We had slugs this time last year, caught 3 in one night! They kept coming in until i sprinkled slug pellets around the front of the house roughly where the twunting things were getting in. Haven't had any in since!

We also tried the beer thing. Didn't work. Either our slugs were tee total or tesco value beer wasn't good enough for them!
