Ok, this is a bundle.

1. Would you expect the estate agent / Landlord to have informed you about the jazz club just behind your back garden, rather than saying, "Oh that, I dont know what that building is"

1. I have been in the UK now for nearly a month, and there has not been a official Welcome Back for me. THREE friends have been able to meet up with me.

1. WTF. I expected my son to be BEHIND in school. It turns out he isnt. I am disappointed. I thought that he would be much behind as they started school at 6 years of age, and he would jump back in to year 5, having LOST two years, but he is not even behind in English literacy. Despite not having learnt any English in school for over three years. Oh boy. I am obviously NOT disappointed in my son, he is a star.

1. If you like jazz its a bonus, and even if you dont, its not likely to be a hardcore rave every night.

1. Organise it yourself!

1. Not if he/she genuinely didn't know.

1. Have you made the effort? Your travel was obviously a big thing to you but in the nicest possible way, other people's lives go on.

1. You must be proud of your son and rightly so. As long as it's not because the school isn't that great though? I mean how hot are they on literacy?

I don't mean #3 to sound passive aggressive or any of that crap...just that as long as he's up to the standard of his age or above, that's great.

I do like Jazz. A lot. But it is a private club. And we cannot hear the music. Only the people coming and going. And their goings on behind the bushes at the back of OUR garden.....

Buy some binoculars and report to MN every day

Well, Maths is Maths, and universal. The school is ofsted outstanding in an affluent area where kids do fencing, piano lessons, tennis and golf as extra curricular. It is a school that people chose before private because it is a good school. It is an RC primary. I am just really surprised, as I was really worried that he would be way behind and struggle. Instead, the extra challenge with all the homework has really spurred him on.

My other son is well and truly behind, as he has jumped into year 2 without any schooling beforehand. But he has lots of support from a second teacher and the special needs coordinator, so even he is thriving and doing well. In two weeks, he has jumped up one level on the ORT.

or maybe the Jazz bit is all a smokescreen. I think you need to go one night and check it out .. then let us all know

I should definitely get some night vision goggles and recording equipment! Brad Pitt was spotted nearby the other night. Maybe he will come and enjoy som good jazz....

... or some good Swing come to think of it.

The area is neither here nor there and other people's activities, but if the school is outstanding and he's doing that well...then that's brilliant!

And your other son sounds like he's doing fantastic too.

I mean, it is just an area where people seem to really push their children to achieve in all sorts of arenas, rather than the laid back "why dont you go and hang outside the supermarket like your peers that we are used to".
