On the whole?

I mean it's worse than I thought. Am a recent convert, but the shit some folk post about their lives. I mean REALLY who is interested?

Pages and pages of my 'friends' most detailed stream of boring consciousness.

Mebeez I need to log off!

I need to be more ruthless with FB, I find myself feeling it would be too mean to delete people Blush So I have way too many idiots people on there.

I have however, deleted or hidden the following:

  • The girl who told everyone on her status about how she had stomach ache because she was about to come on & then posted a 10-comment conversation with her friend about sanitary wear / general period stuff.
  • The family member who posts weekly statuses about getting her DD weighed - 9am: "goin 2 get my iccle princess weighed today wonder what she'll be the iccle fatty" then 11am: "my iccle princess weighed Xlb Xoz the iccle fatty". She's also guilty of 'takin my iccle princess n my iccle princes swimmin'
  • Many people who use text speak or just really bad grammar (I know mine isn't perfect before anyone says anything, but at least I know what commas & full stops are!)
  • People Who Feel The Need To Use A Capital Letter For Every Single Fucking Word

Oh & the girl I went to school with who posted 20 updates per day, with photos to emphasise her point, about how her baby smiled, rolled over, fell asleep Hmm, had a bottle, had a bath, gurgled, sucked his thumb .etc.

qo and Meteorite, it's a lifestyle thing though. My clients are spread around the world and I visit them (America, Canada, Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore etc) for a week each year. I like them and get on really well with them but it would be too much hassle (especially with time zones) to speak to them regularly on non business matters and who emails photos/videos?

FB means that I can see what they have been up to, what their kids are doing, etc and I love their photos. I found out that somebody I know really well - and spend a couple of weeks a year with - was having his leg amputated due to an infection. I spotted this on his FB update and was able to call him up. I wouldn't have done at this time of year otherwise.

I also saw that a friend was selling her pony (she mentioned it on FB) and rang her up and bought it for DD. Would not have spoken to her for at least another week otherwise, by which it may have been sold to somebody else.

However I do cull occasionally and if you feel your friends are dull then unfriend them!

I deleted my Facebook a few months ago after realising how addicted I was, it nearly ruined my relationship. My partner and myself both came off it, and we don't miss it one bit!! A lot of people used Facebook to be passive aggressive, thinly veiled insults through staus updates and it used to really wind me up!!!! I can't see me ever going on it again to be honest. I have also realised who my friends really are after coming off it, because some people have made the effort to keep in touch via text, phone calls and (shock horror!!) meeting up in person, whereas people I thought were true friends have not Confused. I have so much more time for everything now, especially my children and my partner, life is better lived for real rather than through Facebook :)

YANBU. I gave up on Facebook three years ago because I got bored of the banalities of the posts. And all of those, like this picture or you support cancer/terrorists/child abuse etc posts. I figured if I genuinely cared about any of these people I'd see them and talk to them in real life. So that's what I do.
