On the whole?

I mean it's worse than I thought. Am a recent convert, but the shit some folk post about their lives. I mean REALLY who is interested?

Pages and pages of my 'friends' most detailed stream of boring consciousness.

Mebeez I need to log off!

and how is MN any better??

poppygolucky · 23/09/2011 11:38

My major problem on fb is my SIL who is both vacuous and banal but unfortunately someone I have to be polite and nice to in RL.

I ignore most of what she posts but she comments on EVERYTHING I post, usually spectacularly missing the point and writing something which displays her astounding ignorance. Or she makes it about her PFB, who is 18 months older than my DD and some kind of child prodigy my DD could only hope to emulate.

God, she does my tits in and can't unfriend her. So I have some sympathy OP.

AeolineReed · 23/09/2011 11:40

Yes, it is utterly vacuous and banal. I have never been on it, mind, so I am judging it on the basis of the people I know who use it. But hell will freeze over before I ever do.

TrillianAstra · 23/09/2011 11:41

YABU

If everything you see on Facebook is vacuous and banal it's your friends who are to blame.

bintofbohemia · 23/09/2011 11:45

poppy - can you stick her on limited profile? She might not notice... Grin

iwantbrie · 23/09/2011 11:49

YANBU really, but sometimes it's nice to be vacuous & banal... that's what my day off is for! Grin
Just wish they'd stop messing around with it...

GrungeBlobPrimpants · 23/09/2011 11:55

I misread this as 'Vacuous and anal'

poppygolucky · 23/09/2011 12:01

bint unfortunately she is on fb constantly and would massively take offence. U just have to accept it and explain to my actual friends in private that I'm v much only 'friends' with her because of the fact our children have the same grandparents.

breathedeeply · 23/09/2011 12:05

Status shuffle - making stupid people feel profound.

Thumbwitch · 23/09/2011 12:10

Poppy you could just hide all her posts...

OP - YABU. I am on it to keep in touch with friends and family the other side of the world. It is very useful for sharing photos and videos and makes me feel more connected to their lives still.

Psammead · 23/09/2011 12:12

I never understand these FB threads. If the people on your FBwind you up so much, just get rid of them.

Danielsmammy · 23/09/2011 12:18

I love facebook as i live in a different country than my family and most of my friends it's a brilliant way to keep in touch, but I'm glad i don't have weird family and friends that post their whole life story's on there, but if i didn't like what they were saying i would just deleted them so i can't understand why people are moaning about it because it is after all them who added them as friends so why not deleted :D.

I hate the gloating most. All the "look how rich/successful/clever I am" status updates I see make me want to vom. Also, the people who sew or make something and post endless pictures of the tat stuff they have created.
I was particularly furious when I couldn't afford Take That tickets this year and every fucker friend I had on FB was showing off and giving blow by blow accounts of the whole day Envy
Or maybe I'm just a jealous old bint!!

nethunsreject · 23/09/2011 12:56

'vaccuous and banal'. You say that like it's a BAD thing. Wink

Tortington · 23/09/2011 12:57

exactly, us vacuous types need a place to be.

Awomancalledhorse · 23/09/2011 13:00

I quite like having a few 'friends' who post utter tripe, makes me feel all warm and cosy about not being a knobber (aside from being a judgey pants knobber, by saying their posts are tripe). Blush

FunnysInTheGarden · 23/09/2011 13:20

Awoman I quite agree with the benefit of reflection, plus it gives me something to bitch about. In any case I quite like being judgy in these circs.

And WRT status shuffle, the perfect opportunity for all the equally banal friends to join in and say 'oh hun, you are so right. lol!!!!'

cecilyparsley · 23/09/2011 13:31

I agree with murieltheactor
I deleted my account after a couple of weeks, I found other peoples photo's and update vacuous and was utterly uninterested in sharing my own vacuity

FlouncyMcFlouncer · 23/09/2011 13:34

Kaluki, I'll send you my friends list. They're uniformly failures at life and make me feel much better.

Tortington · 23/09/2011 13:35

i think the OP NEEDS THIS PAGE HERE

theDudesmummy · 23/09/2011 13:37

I like FB. just generally use it as a way to share pics and videos of my DS with family and friends, most of whom live in other countries. I keen my page very clean with no clutter and don't get involved in any applications etc or post status updates (except about the rubgy world cup! That's too important for me not to comment on!). I look at other people's pictures etc but don't get involved in much else. That works for me.

theDudesmummy · 23/09/2011 13:38

keep it clean not keen it clean!

oldenglishspangles · 23/09/2011 13:39

I clearly dont use facebook enough - whats status shuffle?

FunnysInTheGarden · 23/09/2011 13:39

oh wow, I have made discussion of the day for the FIRST TIME EVER
