there are no words for this, i just can not understand this or any one who would condone this behaviour under the bracket of the country is in debt so everyone has to take a hit, the tories are making tough decisions.

i guess because they weren't as terminal as they thought? who the fuck knows because they lived too long it seems to be what they are saying.

SurprisEs · 21/09/2011 13:39

Shocked. Don't know what to say...

Anniegetyourgun · 21/09/2011 13:43

So DWP are sending letters out warning people of a cut that may not be approved by Parliament. Does this make them bad guys because they are hoping the shock will bump off some of the target demographic, good guys because they're giving the victims a chance to campaign against it, or just a bit silly for telling everyone early at vast expense as the article suggests?

ginmakesitallok · 21/09/2011 13:51

I don't understand the article - especially where it says at the end "terminally ill people with less than 6 months to live will be unaffected by the changes" - what is the criteria for this benefit??

tallwivglasses · 21/09/2011 13:54

So come on all you Tory Mumsnetters - what have you got to say about this then?

spookshowangellovesit · 21/09/2011 14:01

i imagine they are attempting the forewarned is forarmed stance, but really not even a tory government could do this could they...i mean really....??

OP posts:
TheVermiciousKnid · 21/09/2011 14:03

I reckon they're doing this because they're getting a bit bored with all this governing malarky and want to make sure they are not elected again.

spookshowangellovesit · 21/09/2011 14:06

yep nick and dave just want to go away some were together where their love will ot be scorned.

PerryCombover · 21/09/2011 14:06

This government and it's apologists disgust me.

We must learn from how they treat those most in need.

spookshowangellovesit · 21/09/2011 15:36

people wont though. they will say things had to be done because of labour cock ups and the tories are just doing their best. my ass.

tabulahrasa · 21/09/2011 15:41

'yeah but you can reapply for dla.'

Yes, you can, but while you're doing that, you don't get any money and if someone is claiming carer's allowance that is also stopped, which then affects any other benefits linked to it, like income support....

Laquitar · 21/09/2011 15:45

It is so sickening.

I feel sick but not very surprised tbh Sad

And of course YANotatallU.

whackamole · 21/09/2011 15:45

Oh my god. I am speechless.

Dozer · 21/09/2011 15:46
Shock

It would be good if someone could change the thread title to make clear the subject matter.

milkyways · 21/09/2011 15:47

:( :( :(

porcamiseria · 21/09/2011 15:49

i bet it wont go through, there will be an outcry

itisnearlysummer · 21/09/2011 16:11

Hopefully you're right, porcamiseria, but the very fact they've come up with it as an idea. "Ah Prime Minister, I've thought of an excellent way we can reduce the welfare bill..."

stripeywoollenhat · 21/09/2011 16:16

wow. fucking - just - wow.

HedleyLamarr · 21/09/2011 16:32

Before the election: "no more Nasty Party". After the election: basically what Neil Kinnock said at the end of his speech in 1983:-

"- I warn you not to be ordinary

  • I warn you not to be young
  • I warn you not to fall ill
  • I warn you not to get old."

They are showing their true colours. Again.

unpa1dcar3r · 21/09/2011 17:33

Sadly nothing surprises me about this Govt.
It didn't surprise me to learn that Cameron claimed DLA for his son even though he's a multi millionaire whose son had 24/7 privately paid trained nurses to care for him, and now it doesn't surprise me that he is also trying his best to ensure others who rely desperately on DLA are not getting it, or that it is being changed to something else as long as the disabled person can make a cup of tea!

It doesn't surprise me but it does make me very very despondent and sad. Not to mention scared to death for the future (as long as it only takes me 12 months!) for my 2 SLD sons. Sad

Cheria · 21/09/2011 17:36

Would like to say Shock but nothing shocks me anymore about the cretins in power at the moment.

Ooh it's ages since I used the word cretin.

Iggly · 21/09/2011 17:41

Where are the Tory loving MNers? Come defend this please.

picnicbasketcase · 21/09/2011 17:42

Fucking hell.
Angry

I demand another General Election for next week.

ShirelyKnottage · 21/09/2011 19:51

Good point Dozer

OP - please report your thread and change the title to something like "AIBU to think the proposed cuts in benefits for the terminally ill are shocking?"

SanctiMoanyArse · 21/09/2011 20:04

Yes, it's the same rules that many of us with disabled kids ahve been trying to scream about for ages.

Labour have decided to try and argue but they hired the abstards at ATOS in the first palce.

It's shameful. I suspect that many people will be severelya ffected by this- it's not 'just' terminally ill people, it's the severely disabled or emntally ill as well. The genuine people who can't work becuase they are not able, who ahve massive medical files and have attended SNU schools or were imjured ina ction (supporting teh family of an old soldier that ATOS are trying to claim can walk but can't ATM), it's anyone who has the misfortune to need help through disability or severe illness.

Rationale? easy: aging society. Defendable? like fuck is it. But someone will turn up and scream scrounger: bet they won;t be there to support severely asd ds3 when I am gone though

Or my friend's son who ahs ASD and agorpahobia that has just been told he can work by the ESA, apaprenlty his tiny mum has to force him- he's about 2 ft taller than her and handy with his fists! Not their problem though.

From what I can work out it goes like this: person fails ESA claim or time linked reassessment. They then go on JSA and have to attend work palcements which they can't as an ATOS assessment changes nothing. So then as penalty their benefit is stopped (ALL benefit) for three months. And what? they end up on our streets, our most vulnerable people? ds3 will last five minutes but is unlikely to apss ATOS screeninga s it is, becuase it's widelya cknowledged the barr is set ridiculously high (private company paid with targets) and whilst he will never go out alone AFAICS he can talk (sort of, hard to udnerstand a lot) and walk.

But heck as long as someone can make me immortal eh? becuase youa sk a lot of aprents of disabled kids and they will tell you that just by being mortal ATM they feela s if they are failing their child.

I worked for Macmillan, mainly fundraising but of course people would stop by the office often and ask after a dx. What do you say? Sorry you've had X or ATOS said nope we can't help? What did we pay all that NI for then? but heck by teh time they get to appeal they will all be dead / dying or too disabled to fight and with teh changes to legal aid they can;t fight anyway.
