AIBU?

Share your dilemmas and get honest opinions from other Mumsnetters.

to think that the thread police hopping around saying ' this should be in.....section' are not really helping the site to seem welcoming!

That's all.

It's jolly annoying.

OP posts:
CaptainNancy · 15/09/2011 12:48

Shouldn't this be in 'site stuff'? [innocent]

CaptainNancy · 15/09/2011 12:49

soupdragon ... now would that be under 'food', 'pets', or 'recipes'?

festi · 15/09/2011 12:50

I think people look in AIBU for a good old bun fight and/or light hearted debate and often do not have expertise to dish out proper wll thought out advice, not always true of course but I would say on the whole and it is generaly a matter of opinion. They will generally get a much more thought out and gentler post in the appropriate section as there are many regular posters who know alot about a given topic on the specific board.

can I just ask on the active threads it is alphabetical order and AIBU obviously is generaly shown on the first page. Do people automaticaly hide threads they are not interested in so to show a wider range in active threads? I did try this the other day but didnt actually view many threads as I was too busy hiding.

maybe chat is a better place for non descript or seeking quick answers threads.

Or we could request a quick fire round section?

TrillianAstra · 15/09/2011 12:51

On "Active" I find that threads are show in chronological order, not alphabetical.

festi · 15/09/2011 12:51

op can you get this moved to site stuff Wink.

seriously though I think it will be better in there.

DreamsOfSteam · 15/09/2011 12:52

soup no one is saying you must be in exactly the right topic or you will be punished by death, its just a reminder that there is a more relavent section to post in than AIBU

Milsean · 15/09/2011 12:52

@Soupdragon, no since I neither know nor care about who is a parent or otherwise, that does not bother my analness tidy side at all.

If you don't know where to post things, anything can go in Chat. Thats a general area, its not that hard to find Chat, is it?

festi · 15/09/2011 12:52

last 15 mins seems to be alphabetical.

TrillianAstra · 15/09/2011 12:54

Last 15 mins and Last hour are alphabetical - Active is chronological (and better Wink)

TheRhubarb · 15/09/2011 12:55

If they post in AIBU then they will just have to learn the hard way. It's too late to tell them that there is a more suitable topic and besides, many people deliberately post in AIBU because they think they'll get a higher response ratio which is right.

I often post stuff that I'm concerned about in chat rather than in say, behaviour and development, because I feel it's more likely to get a response in chat.

I've been told that my thread is in the wrong place and I just grit my teeth and ignore them. I don't care about Mumsnet being messy, I just want answers to my problems NOW! Grin

weneedabiggerboat · 15/09/2011 12:56

Yup, I find it all a bit head girlery, same with people sniffing out trolls, discussing usernames etc. Its a bit "God, it used to be good here, when it was just us".

AbsDuWolef · 15/09/2011 12:57

So when did this TAMPON crap start and why?

SouthernFriedTofu · 15/09/2011 12:57

If the OP has a sensitive post - is most case it will be treated sensitively.

So there is no need for them to move it- it's worse than not seeming welcoming.... its actually kind of boring seeing multiple librarianeque posts about the placement of a topic. Mumsnet shoudln't be boring

TrillianAstra · 15/09/2011 12:57

many people deliberately post in AIBU because they think they'll get a higher response ratio which is right

It's only right because they never go to any other topics.

It's a vicious circle, which will result in every single thread being in AIBU because nowhere else gets any traffic.

SoupDragon · 15/09/2011 12:59

"soup no one is saying you must be in exactly the right topic or you will be punished by death, its just a reminder that there is a more relavent section to post in than AIBU"

Yes, but someone who is new engh to be unsure isn't going to find that very friendly are they? and who are you (not you specifically) to tell someone that actually they should have posted in X topic? Do we need a rank system whereby you are only allowed to tell off inform people who are newer than you? Besides, perhaps they deliberately chose that topic.

MN runs perfectly well without the aid of busybodies. It always has.

WorzselMummage · 15/09/2011 12:59

I am really bored of it. The YABU for using the wrong section brigade are a million times more annoying than people using the wrong section are.

CharlieMcGee · 15/09/2011 12:59

It's fucking annoying, you get into a thread and halfway down and then Trillian pops up with her little message then others pop up asking what a tampon is or making little in jokes. This means the original OP is often sidelined.

It is really really silly and also makes you who are doing it look like a saddo's who wants a prefect badge.

MN managed for years without people jumping around modding on threads.
I remember a few years ago when a poster thought she was helping by bumping unanswered threads a few times each day, in the end MN asked her nicely to stop as it was disruptive and I also believe what is going on now is disruptive and distracting.

SoupDragon · 15/09/2011 13:02

In fact, I think I might start a new brigade who go round posting "fuck the fuck off, " after any TAMPON post.

WorzselMummage · 15/09/2011 13:04

What is TAMPON?

There Are Many Prefectwannabees On Now?

[Hmm]

WorzselMummage · 15/09/2011 13:04
Hmm
Thumbwitch · 15/09/2011 13:05

It slightly amuses and slightly irritates me in equal measure - it's like school monitors who roamed the corridors and did the teachers' job for them, telling you off for running/wearing trainers/ wrong tie/wrong jumper/too short skirt. I have this vision of Trillian in perfect school uniform with pincenez and a severe bun, clipboard in hand, longing to hand out detentions to culprits.
Grin

CharlieMcGee · 15/09/2011 13:07

This is my point I just started reading a thread in AIBU and then up pops a message that it is in the wrong place, so fucking what!

Is this bitterness at never getting the milk monitor job at primary or something?

TrillianAstra · 15/09/2011 13:08

:o I like the image

Unfortunately I can't find one here

Insomnia11 · 15/09/2011 13:09

Hear hear, OP.

WorzselMummage · 15/09/2011 13:09

this is more my mental image
