to think that you have no right to an opinion if you don't read the whole thread?

This is something that REALLY annoys me. A thread can change direction within a couple of posts - the OP gives more information, changes their opinion etc - yet still, posters give their opinion based solely on the OP, taking no notice whatsoever of the rest of the thread.

It comes across as horribly crass sometimes too.

I do appreciate that you don't always have time to read the whole thing, especially if it's pages long - but then, save your opinion until you DO have time, yes? Please?

Grrrr.

I think people should try to read all the OP's posts at least.

Use the option in customise to highlight posts by the thread author and then you can skim through and find them easily.

AbbyAbsinthe · 13/09/2011 11:47

See, actually, I perhaps shouldn't have phrased it 'no right to an opinion'.

You know what I mean though.

See how many posters comment on that 'no right to an opinion' comment now I've taken it back now Wink

If the thread has 10 pages I'd rather risk making a fool of myself and then being corrected. But that's just me.

Whatmeworry · 13/09/2011 11:48

Have now added the highlighter option, am suitably chastened :)

Peachy · 13/09/2011 11:50

I didn't know about highligter, how incredibly useful. Thanks.

Sirzy · 13/09/2011 11:50

I normally read the first 2 pages then the last 2 which generally gives a pretty clear indication of how the thread has moved on.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 13/09/2011 11:51

I see that, Worra... ;)

It was odd really, as I was typing my post I was thinking of the posters I always read the posts of... and I posted, and there you were, just above... Confused

I'd think I was psychic if only I believed in all that horseshit... Grin

TotemPole · 13/09/2011 11:54

I've just realised that I can highlight my own posts as well.

I'm now a lovely olive colour sandwiched between Abby's lovely forest green.

clam · 13/09/2011 11:55

You can also highlight your own posts - in a different shade.

worraliberty · 13/09/2011 11:57

It's quite spooky actually Lying because I agree with you so often, I was wondering the other day if I might have known you from another forum Shock

AbbyAbsinthe · 13/09/2011 11:57

Ah, you see, mine are the same colour as the OP's in every thread. Gives me a lovely over inflated sense of self importance Smile

I haven't read the thread, but I have a very strong Opinion

aldiwhore · 13/09/2011 12:18

I've got a RIGHT to an opinion even if I don't even read the OP actually. Doesn't mean that opinion is correct, or is well informed or takes into account all information available, but I still have a right to voice it.

iMemoo · 13/09/2011 12:19

You are being very unreasonable.

(not read thread)

Psammead · 13/09/2011 12:19

In reply to the OP, YABU.

I do ^^ that. Clears up any confusion.

OP you took the statement back but it doesn't erase the fact that at some point you said it and at some point you were being unreasonable. The statement is still there and therefore it will still commented on.

AbbyAbsinthe · 13/09/2011 12:37

I was just making a point of my own, SurprisEs

I still don't think I'm being unreasonable about the rest of it though. It's lazy and ignorant not to read the whole thread, imo. It's the forum equivalent of cutting someone off halfway through a sentence without hearing them out.
