to have refused to pay?

Yesterday I found a cat in my house. I must have left the door open while taking some shopping in. Cats give me the creeps so I asked my neighbour (a cat lover) to get the cat out of the house for me as it was in my daughter's bedroom and wouldn't come out from under the bed.

It turned out to be one of her cats. It had its front paw stuck through its collar and it seemed to be distressed. She took the cat away. I can't imagine what the cat could have injured itself on in my house.

This morning she has turned up at my door with a bill from the vet for £60 which she thinks I should pay. Apparently the cat needed a check up as it now has a shoulder injury. She thinks that I should pay because the "cat obviously couldn't have got into the house in that state so it must have had an accident in my house".

I have refused to pay. It's her cat so the vet's bill is her problem. She thinks I am being completely unreasonable and apparently intends to sue me - according to the very gossipy neighbour over the road who just happened to pop over while I was bringing the bin in because she was watching her window waiting for me to leave my house because she has a juicy titbit of gossip to impart.

So mumsnet jury AIBU?

How odd, what a twerp. I would tell her to take the cost off the bill for the cleaning and de fleaing of the bedroom carpet.

AuntiePickleBottom · 12/09/2011 16:02

yanbu

clam · 12/09/2011 16:21

So, how exactly did this conversation go this morning? How did you phrase, "jog on?"

heleninahandcart · 12/09/2011 18:01

YANBU. No explanation necessary.

Smellslikecatpee · 12/09/2011 18:17

Well as a cat lover [hikes cat haired, cat wees smelling bosom up, with stern look over half glasses].

I think you should tell her to take a trip to the far side of fuck!!

Found out recently that boy cat has taken to nipping in to neighbours house for a nap midday-ish, advised that neighbour show him the door smartish and offered a spray bottle full of water to reinforce the lack of invite.

[She refused; I think she?s trying to persuade her OH to get a cat]

Seriously what planet is she on???

Oh and any decent cat owner knows about the collar thing.

IF they do have to wear one, they need to be quick release ones, tell her you're reporting her for abuse

SnapesMistress · 12/09/2011 18:20

YADNBU

SansaLannister · 12/09/2011 18:21

YANBU. I'd tell her to go get knotted.

SquirtedPerfumeUpNoseInBoots · 12/09/2011 18:28

Guess what I'm going to say?

YANBU.

MigratingCoconuts · 12/09/2011 18:30

ok Helena...I think you need to take down all those anti cat traps you have clearly set up all over your house. Very cunning of you to devise a trap that somehow pushes the cat's foot into its own collar! Evil genius!!!

ChunkyMonkeyMother · 12/09/2011 18:31

The crazy thing is if you hit it with your car and drove off she would still have to foot the bill, tell her you'll see her in court and fingers crossed you get Judge Judy who will give her the over-the-glasses-are-you-totally-mental stare and laugh her out of court!

starfishmummy · 12/09/2011 18:34

another YANBU

PattySimcox · 12/09/2011 18:40

I'm liking klads suggestion - partic the nosy neighbour bit

YellowDinosaur · 12/09/2011 18:45

Another cat owner here who also thinks she is completely f*cking mad! No way should you be paying for this! her cat, her collar, her problem.

Also marking place as I am very nosily interested in how this pans out Grin

DogsBestFriend · 12/09/2011 18:51

It aint often I'm speechless but... Shock

SecretNutellaFix · 12/09/2011 19:00

Your neighbour is Dagenham. (Three stops past Barking).
A total fruitloop.

Her cat, her collar, her vet bill, her problem.

DogsBestFriend · 12/09/2011 19:02

"Your neighbour is Dagenham. (Three stops past Barking)."

That is quite possibly the best response to utter madness that I've ever heard.

PMSL. :o Thanks, Nutella, you've made a day of bills and a blown down fence so much easier to bear. :)

Helenagrace · 12/09/2011 19:08

Quick update!

I saw her when I arrived back from school run. She came up and said she'd been thinking and maybe it was only fair to ask me to pay half of the bill!! I refused again.

I said I'd been mumsnetting googling and found out that collars are really quite dangerous. She said it needs a collar in case it gets lost. I suggested microchipping and she said she can't because it's already microchipped as belonging to someone else so it's not even her bl**dy cat!!

I am obviously living next door to a nutter and a cat rustler! She's normally been quite sane.

I am LOVING the gossipy neighbour and fleas scenario. Gossipy neighbour will no doubt be standing guard in her window at school run time tomorrow. I think she needs feeding with a juicy bit of gossip...

Good of her to 'knock down the price' for you...what a crackhead

Talker2010 · 12/09/2011 19:36

Excellent ... I had not realised that I could use my cat to extort from neighbours

Not Unreasonable At All

Grumpla · 12/09/2011 19:37

HAHAHAHA!!!

You DEFINITELY have to invoice her for carpet cleaning now. What a fucking weirdo.

I am totally unable to imagine how you managed to keep a straight face during that conversation though.

You could always tell the silly cow that you're a bit short this week as you've just paid the deposit for the pair of goats, the Rottweiler - who you're not sure is cat friendly - and the cockeral.

evil :o

MigratingCoconuts · 12/09/2011 19:54

arf at cat rustling!!!!!
