to tell my 12 yr old DS off for losing 3 pairs of swimming goggles at his Dad's?

Just gave DS a right telling off... he's going swimming at school today and cannot find his goggles. We popped in to his Dad's house on the way to school and he could not find them there either. This is the third pair in 3 weeks! His Dad is away right now (DS has a key). Problem is his Dad has likely packed them for camping/swimming etc and then not unpacked them at the end, so DS has no idea where they are. His Dad's house is a mess and a black hole into which things disappear forever. (Music books, school projects, wellington boots etc.) It's so frustrating. I feel a bit guilty for having a go at DS when I think it is probably his Dad's fault, but if he doesn't learn to keep track of his own stuff instead of thinking his Dad will do it, then he will keep losing it. AIBU? What else can I do. Feel rotten as he ran off without saying goodbye this morning.

He's 12, of course it's his fault. Unless he has additional needs that mean he can't keep track of his own kit.
Why does he need goggles? After the second pair, I'd be expecting him to replace them himself.

I'm with Goblin. Make him replace them. He's 12.

Thanks! Feel slightly less guilty for the telling off now!
