To wonder what the govt has planned to punish those NOT on benefits?

News link

This is not the first time cutting benefits has been suggested as a punishment. How are the government proposing to punish parents who don't tackle truancy efficiently that aren't on benefits exactly? Just like the assertion that the rioters should lose benefits, yes because they were ALL on benefits weren't they? Hmm

Once again the government fuels the totally untrue daily mail esque belief that all of society's ills lie at the feet of benefits claimants. Apparently they are the root of all evil, eh? Hmm

Not one of the policies publicised has said what would happen to those who do not claim benefits.

Money designed for basic sustenance should not be removed imo. At the end of the day it is the children that will suffer from these measures.

"I'm not on benefits and don't ever intend on making life style choices to put myself in their situation."

Would you consider having children with SN a 'lifestyle choice'? Or are they the other kind of benefit claimants? You, know, the 'good' ones?

Empjusa · 11/09/2011 15:21

"and don't ever intend on making life style choices to put myself in their situation."

Oh of course. Silly me. Everyone on benefits chose it! For the fun fun times obviously. Hmm

tethersend · 11/09/2011 15:21

Just checking it's not in social policy or economics.

Who is funding it, BTW?

I'm not a martyr. How odd that you would think I was.

Why would you think that?

LadyOfTheManor · 11/09/2011 15:23

Emp, yes a lot of society do CHOOSE to be on benefits. Surely you don't think that EVERY 18 year old has been made redundant after years of work?

Tethersend;

a) It is neither to do with economics nor politics
b) It's really not relevant nor any of your business.

tethersend · 11/09/2011 15:23

Oh, OK, so DLA recipients are the good ones, understood.

LOTM So is that all of them have chosen it, or just some?
Because if it's just "some" then how do you think "making the right choices" is any security against ending up on benefits?

tethersend · 11/09/2011 15:24

Well, I'd like to know if any of my tax money from the fags I buy is going to fund your lavish lifestyle, LOTM.

I think I have a right to know.

LadyOfTheManor · 11/09/2011 15:25

How on earth will it fund my lifestyle? I fund my own lifestyle...and plenty of others' too.

tethersend · 11/09/2011 15:26

So you are funding your own PhD?

Wow, impressive. How did you manage that?

LadyOfTheManor · 11/09/2011 15:26

Emp, those that haven't chosen it as a means of living aren't on benefits for very long as it's literally to fill a gap between situations, and the majority of people who don't wish to make a living from it aren't of the "entitlement" mentality, and to be honest, a lot of them have too much pride.

OpinionatedMum · 11/09/2011 15:26

MAYPOLE I don't understand your point Confused

LadyOfTheManor · 11/09/2011 15:27

Oh don't be so utterly ridiculous.

tethersend · 11/09/2011 15:27

Are you saying that you're not taking any of my fag money then? Just checking what kind of moral fibre you have, you understand Wink

CardyMow · 11/09/2011 15:27

But not everyone that is registered disabled, and therefore has barriers to getting work, is ABLE to claim DLA. Doesn't mean they aren't disabled though.

I can't claim DLA for my uncontrolled epilepsy any more - because I 'only' have 52 seizures a year. the new criteria is that you have to have 104+ seizures per year to qualify. Doesn't mean it's any easier for me to explain to my employer that I might have to take time off once a wek because I am dealing with the after-effects from a seizure...

I'm still disabled, yet am unable to claim DLA. Sometimes double amputees are unable to claim DLA. Does that make them any less disabled??

And you still haven't responded to the fact that despite the fact that I will be working, and paying taxes, just like you, I will still be claiming benefits in order to survive. Does that mean I am not allowed to, say, have half a bottle of wine, if I felt like it, at the end of a long hard week at work?

LadyOfTheManor · 11/09/2011 15:28

Tethersend, your "fag" money? I'm not too sure what point you're making.

begonyabampot · 11/09/2011 15:29

LOTM, how did you manage to buy your lovely manor house (weren't you trying to sell it - how's it going?). You must be on a hell of a wage considering you just turned 24 and are having your second child - seriously, what is it you do again?

LadyOfTheManor · 11/09/2011 15:30

I'm 25 and all my wealth was inherited, I've made no secret of that.

However I completed my education all the way through-given the same opportunities as everyone else, that is.

K999 · 11/09/2011 15:30

I am impressed that anyone can be doing a PHd at 24!!

CardyMow · 11/09/2011 15:30

Or should I doff my cap at you, and back away on my knees, because you are paying for my bottle of wine? mmm'yessiree. Nothing to do with the fact that I will have worked my arse off doing a 37.5hr week whilst having 4 dc to look after on my own, coping with 2 of their SN AND coping with my own disability...

tethersend · 11/09/2011 15:30

Oh, apologies LOTM- I should have said 'My tax money. Which I pay on fags'

Hope that's a bit clearer.

Is your PhD in lung cancer? Because I wouldn't mind funding that, TBH.

LadyOfTheManor · 11/09/2011 15:31

Oh, and my wage is adequate, considering I'm now mortgage free and my dh works very hard Grin.

People are capable of working long hours and getting decent money for it-how's that for moral fibre?

CardyMow · 11/09/2011 15:32

NOT evryone has the same opportunities LOTM - I was in FC, and was moved between 4 different foster homes during my GCSE years. I ended up being unable to sit my exams. Did I have the same opportunities as you? NO.
