To not want to win millions on the lottery

I had this discussion with a friend today and she said I was mad. I feel that it would change my life too much. I would love to win enough to buy a nice house and live without having to worry about money. I feel that bin winning millions normal life would end

I wouldn't want the millionaire lifestyle either. I don't do the lottery but if I did and won I'd use the money to pay off loads of people's mortgages and make their lives a little easier.

I have had this discussion many times; my PIL are obsessed with winning the lottery (they have plenty of cash, they are just glass-half-full people) and I've talked about it with others as well. My life isn't perfect but I am incredibly happy the way I am, I wouldn't want to change that.

Yes, I would like to give a bit of money to some family and give more to charity, but I honestly think it would change the dynamics between DH and I, and with our wider family, in a negative. I'm embarrased to admit that I'm not sure DH and I would actually 'survive' a lottery win as we have such different ideas as to what to do with it. He would be handing it out willy-nilly to his pals (some of whom I can't stand) and I would be investigating investments and charities.

What happens if you give to one friend and not another? And how much do you give, does it depend on how long you've known them? When you last saw them? The whole thing is a minefield I'd rather avoid. I'm happy with our lives, we are better off than most and I appreciate what we have and what we work very hard for. Getting my paycheque every month is a little pleasure I enjoy!

It Could Be Me? I'd rather it wasn't!

I've always said I'd never want to win a ridiculous amount. Like that couple that won £160m or whatever it was - there would be no point to life anymore. Nothing to strive for, nothing to aim for. Travelling the world would lose it's appeal after a while too and there are only so many lamborghinis one could ever want.

I'd rather have enough to buy a lovely home and not have to worry about money. A mega win would freak me out.
Although if I were to win £61 million I wouldn't be giving it back!

You can all give your winnings to me then, I could quite happily live the millionaire lifestyle and think of loads of worthwhile things to do with the money, and my time when I no longer had to work.

A nice house for me - £500k
A bit of land - no idea how much land costs, never been in the position to buy!
A nice car for day to day stuff - £20k
A kick-ass car for the weekend - £100k (? again I wouldn't know!)
A month long holiday to Orlando - £10k?

erm - couldn't really think of much else I'd want. I reckon £1m would see me just nice.

cat64 I'm with you on that one. 64 families having the opportunity to be reasonably well off would be so much better than one ridiculously wealthy couple. It would significantly increase the odds on winning big too - which would encourage more people no?
