here

I was considering buying some "sexy" and by sexy I mean not granny panties from George at Asda, so would like to find somethign in my size. I have looked at several "plus sized" web sites and none of them show anyone who looks remotely plus sized to me. They just have huge boobs which means they look nothing like me and I have no idea if I would look disgusting or not in any of the clothes.

I just want to see a fat girl who looks like me wearing the clothes!

Excellent pants though.

MutantPubicCrabs · 09/09/2011 07:38

She's been airbrushed to hell and back. Look at her face, she's supposed to be a hell of a lot bigger than the photo makes out. By her face I'd take a guess at a UK size 16. The whole photo looks totally unnatural.

catgirl1976 · 09/09/2011 08:55

I read the phrase "a curvy size 10" in a (uk) magazine the other week to refer to some sleb who had dared to be as overweight as that.

Made coffee come out of my size 12 nose in horror.

fanjobanjowanjo · 09/09/2011 09:10

YANBU - she is NOT plus sized, and she is well sexy, especially in comparison to the usual lingerie models!

I don't think she should be termed as "plus size" because that indicates she is larger than she should be, and would be desirable, I really hate the term. That term indicates a fat person to me (I am "plus size" too!)

What is fat about a size 14 - 16 (UK)?!
Why is it more sexy and desirable to have every last bone showing???!!! Maaaaa. Rant over.

TurkeyBurgerThing · 09/09/2011 09:37

If you see ribs on an animal then you'd call the RSPCA....

LadyOfTheManor · 09/09/2011 09:40

She's plus sized compared to normal models...

LaurieFairyCake · 09/09/2011 09:43

I think she's about an 8-10 - the back view is very slim. The only way she's bigger than that is if you measure her boobs but it's pretty clear her waist size is about 24 inches.

fanjobanjowanjo · 09/09/2011 09:49

Lady shes a fricking elephant compared to "normal models" lol

I don't think it's right that our society uses these "normal models" for everything.

I understand why - "the clothes hang better on them" because the natural curves of the body don't get in the way.

If this is the case, how do fashion designs work on the ordinary person? How do the designers know what will work?

It would be nice to see normal figures of different shapes and heights used on a cat walk for a change!

OpinionatedMum · 09/09/2011 09:56

YANBU she is a ten or twelve at the most. I would regard plus size as 16, and I am a size 16 and proud. You do need to know how it would suit a larger lady. That girl just does not have enough awkward lumps and bumps to tell!

DawnTiggaWeirdyBeardy · 09/09/2011 09:57

In fashion anything above a size 12 (and some of those) are considered 'plus' size ffs! I prefer Tyra Banks' way of saying it 'fiercely real'.

I won't use models I think are too thin, this doesn't make me popular on my course Wink

However, we need to shift are paradigm as a society as clothes sell better on thin models.

PigletJohn · 09/09/2011 10:17

She's young, slim, and busty.

Surely the point of the ad is to say "you will look like this if you buy our product"

I suppose if it didn't work they wouldn't do it.

AngryFeet · 09/09/2011 10:33

She has a lovely body but I think she is probably a tall very toned size 14. More of a 12-14 definitely. I was about her size when I was a 14 (I bordered on but never managed to fit into a 12 and I bet she is the same having curvy hips. Her waist is a 10-12 though.

SnapesMistress · 09/09/2011 14:05

She has been photoshopped and badly too.

SouthernFriedTofu · 09/09/2011 14:25

I am still without any decent pants :(

I don't think any of the bloody plus size size shops I've been to have lingerie in the shop. :(

I am 20 weeks pregnant AND fat and had a baby 7 months ago. I just want something that won't make me feel like a beached whale.

hey girls just to let you all know i am actually the woman in that ad,i am a size 18-20 and 7 foot 5 so definitely plus size Wink

cornflowers · 09/09/2011 14:29

She looks like a size 14 at least to me, possibly 16? What size actually constitutes plus sized?

SouthernFriedTofu · 09/09/2011 14:33

UnexpectedItemInTheBaggageArea that took me a second!

Crosshair · 09/09/2011 14:44

I would of thought anything above average would be plus. So if the average in the uk is 16 anything above 16 would be considoured plus. Not sure how it actually works.

If it makes you feel any better SouthernFriedTofu I dont think I have any underwear that even matches let alone the fancy stuff. :o

SouthernFriedTofu · 09/09/2011 14:49

I have 3 bras croshair all maternity Blush about 10 pairs of pants all from asda 5 multi packs and and all worn post labour eurgh.

Awomancalledhorse · 09/09/2011 14:53

She looks plus sized to me. She looks like a tall size 14.

Crosshair · 09/09/2011 14:55

My problem is I never chuck anything out unless its like a rag.

I do need some new bra's though as Im 23 weeks and none of mine fit, getting sick of buying them when I out grow them in a couple of weeks. Seems like a waste of money and im cheap!

Also Im all about the asda multi packs. :o

SouthernFriedTofu · 09/09/2011 15:00

Awomancalledhorse · 09/09/2011 15:09

Southern, have you tried lovehoney? Their plus-sized stuff gets the thumbs up from women on their forums.

LittleMissFlustered · 09/09/2011 21:23

As a fat bird, I detest buying underwear. Evans have no clue these days and most other retailers who do plus size ranges forget that we need knickers and bras too.

'tis fluffing annoying. I got a bra and some matching pants from 'Yours' not so long back, and the bra lasted all of one wearing before going ping (and the manager was not impressed that I had the gall to take it back either). The knickers are still going strong but I'll not be shopping there for undies again.

Spuddybean · 09/09/2011 21:42

when i was young (teens) before i'd filled out i modelled because i was tall. Then i filled out to an outrageous size 12 (to match my height) and was told i'd have to plus size model if i wanted to continue (i didn't anyway - it was hideous).

i have massive problems finding bra's to fit too - 38a. If you deviate from what 'they' consider the norm it's hard.

i cried in John Lewis the other day when after going round numerous shops (including la senza and other shops who specialise in bra's) when i was told for the nth time (while the lady stared horrified at my non existent knockers) that they didn't do anything in my size - maybe i should try a vest (mmm sexy!).

DP has been laughed at/disbelieved in Agent Provocateur and Myla when he asks for my size because they think it's really for him! they look at him and say with a knowing nod 'we dont do your 'girlfriends' size, there are more specialist shops...etc'

sorry - hijacking rant over.
