here

I was considering buying some "sexy" and by sexy I mean not granny panties from George at Asda, so would like to find somethign in my size. I have looked at several "plus sized" web sites and none of them show anyone who looks remotely plus sized to me. They just have huge boobs which means they look nothing like me and I have no idea if I would look disgusting or not in any of the clothes.

I just want to see a fat girl who looks like me wearing the clothes!

Yes plus-sized, but with a lovely shapely figure.

This is what 'curvy' should mean, not a euphemism for fat.

Feminine · 08/09/2011 21:28

YANBU.

In the fashion world though, she would be considered plus.

SiamoFottuti · 08/09/2011 21:29

yes she is, in model land. Because regular sized models look like <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.ie/imgres?q=models+catwalk+lingerie&hl=en&biw=1366&bih=643&tbm=isch&tbnid=M_XrxZRHp2vqHM:&imgrefurl=blog.samanthapeach.co.uk/2010/09/moda-lingerie-catwalk-show.html&docid=3J9nTMPSqwTSBM&w=700&h=467&ei=gyVpTp6fCNCr-ga__d3rCw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=947&vpy=113&dur=2926&hovh=183&hovw=275&tx=176&ty=100&page=1&tbnh=166&tbnw=221&start=0&ndsp=23&ved=1t:429,r:6,s:0" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this

wannabefree · 08/09/2011 21:35

You're right siamofottuti, but the plus-size model has a better figure IMO because she has a nicer waist-hip ratio than the regular models in the link. They're straight up and down.

It would be interesting to see if she would lose the tiny waist if she got thinner.

NHScutback · 08/09/2011 21:36

She has a perfect figure, I am very jealous. No bigger than a 10-12 so not plus size, no. But plus size in a 'fashion' world that tells us women's bodies are disgusting and size zero is normal.

SouthernFriedTofu · 08/09/2011 21:36

does anyone know if a wide waisted/ small boobed woman can wear a corset or would it just not fit at all?

OP posts:
Crosshair · 08/09/2011 21:36

How about going for a Bustiers or Corset style top? Will give you abit more umph in the boob department.

Crosshair · 08/09/2011 21:37

opps x post!

SouthernFriedTofu · 08/09/2011 21:38

My waist is actually wider than my top! So I'm not sure if it wouldn't fit at all or if Im the sort of person who would benifit most form one Confused

YANBU.

The 44" boobs probably qualify them as plus sized in the modelling world.

Crosshair · 08/09/2011 21:41

Yeah I get what you mean, you dont want a baggy look.

How about something like this, you see boobs and it skims past the wide waist?

Theala · 08/09/2011 21:42

"I don't think so. That's a window behind here and the white is the light shining in. When I weigh about a stone less than I do now I have a proportionally very small waist compared to my hips and boobs like her."

That's a television. Televisions that are turned off generally don't shine very localized white lights. And the white strip down her left arm, is what, iyo? The holy light of jesus shining behind her?

This image bears about as much relation to reality as Tweety-pie does to actual birds.

aldiwhore · 08/09/2011 21:42

A good corsett will squish you in all the right places and release you in all the right places... depends on the corsett. I'm a wide waisted gal (skinny legs even when fat, I look like a pigeon) and so didn't think a corsett would 'work'... it did, in more ways than one. Hence the two children!

Crosshair · 08/09/2011 21:45

Its a mirror reflecting outside, look at the second image. She does look airburshed imo.

Newbabynewmum · 08/09/2011 21:45

She looks like me. I'm a size 12.

I never understand this either with plus sized things. It's so obvious the models aren't proper sizes to fit the clothes.

YANBU

Georgimama · 08/09/2011 21:45

The holy light of jesus shining behind her?

Possibly. Or sunlight, just like the light behind her hair. That's not a television. It's a window. Or looking again, more likely a mirror reflecting back the lighting shining forwards on her. But it's not a television.

SouthernFriedTofu · 08/09/2011 21:47

it did, in more ways than one. Hence the two children!

shes not what we would call plus size, but what in 'model' world call plus size so 12/

just as they may say a dress/trousers etc go up to say size 24/26 in a catalogue but NEVER show a lady of that size modelling it - only a size 10/12

glub · 08/09/2011 21:49

not plus sized. she could be five foot tall and a size 8 on the bottom half lol. yadnbu.

SouthernFriedTofu · 08/09/2011 21:52

I like the baby doll dress crosshair-need to see if it would be long enogh thogh im nearly 5 '10

RollingInTheAisles · 08/09/2011 21:54

Isn't it more likely that this is the manufacturers marketing shot and that they make these in all sizes, it's just this website selling the larger sizes and using the standard shot.

SouthernFriedTofu · 08/09/2011 21:56

Maybe but most normal clothes manufactures don't actually do plus sizes. Plus sizes are usually a specialy thing.

OP posts:
Ifancyashandy · 08/09/2011 22:42

I used to book models for shoots and would ask for women who were size 16 (amongst other sizes). The size 16 girl would arrive and be a gazzilion feet tall so she would still look completely slim and in proportion. Think 'Amazonian'. Totally gorgeous. Could be similar here. Doesn't male it any easier for you to judge the clothes though...

LittleMissFlustered · 08/09/2011 23:02

Used to work in plus size fashion. Within our brand there was only ever one model employed who was a size 16 (hired for a fabulous publicity fanfare, where most people were too taken in to notice she was a US model, and therefore a UK size 14), the rest were all a size twelve or under, with clothes pinned to fit. It sucked, but we were told that "it had to be like that or nothing will sell". Plus size fashion is about illusion for the most part.

SouthernFriedTofu · 08/09/2011 23:05

How depressing LMF :( and stupid of course it will sell anyway.. my people can't just go naked Confused Grin
