Long story short, we have just finished building our home. Six weeks ago, I rang BT and Sky etc to arrange delivery and installation, knowing that things like the carpets would be down by then.

I then ordered 2 sofas and one arm chair from Laura Ashley. While in the store, there was a chair (ideal for breast feeding) on sale-the woman said if I bought it I'd have to take it with me as it was end of line...no problem. She then waited until I paid a substantial amount for the said sofas, before telling me that they wouldn't be ready until the first week of September.

Sky turned up today to install, after I told them on the phone when making the initial booking that the house is fairly big and would not require the standard "man and ladder" they assured me this wouldn't be a problem. The Sky man has just left, saying he cannot do it and the specialists are not ready for another month.

I just rang Laura Ashely to find out where the frig my furniture is, and they said the sofas hadn't yet been made and I'm looking at the first week of November!

I'm seriously fucked off, and short of throwing my toys out of my pram, I'm not sure if I should just pen some angry letters or go to my local Laura Ashely and make it the shop workers' problem.

I used to work for Laura Ashley and would reccommen writing directly to head office if you want something done! The structure has changed since I left but I would try to find out the name of the COO. Good luck!

I don't have time to cancel and re order as my second child is en route and this was all supposed to fit a time scale in which I wouldn't be stressed out. Fuck them all.

It is normal to take a while as much of LA furniture is made to order, however I would complain about not being told this upfront, and then not being contacted to explain (and apologise!) why your expected delivery date has moved from September to November. Looks like COO is Nick Kaloyirou.

I am constantly amazed at the poor service from shops etc, I mean whatever hapened to customer service. I don't complain if I am given the information at the time but have had many similar experiences where once they have the money the story changes or simply being in a shop or somewhere and querying something to be met with blank looks and no service at all. recent experience buying a sainsbury's bag with an elephant on telling me how tough it was.... it broke first use, complained and was told oh you must have put too much in it wtf then told 'oh no we don't replace these, only the plastic bag for life ones' ermm surely the point of offering the tougher ones was to discourage plastic bag use! argghh

It's just the fact that they seem to shrug their shoulders with the "nothing we can do" attitude. At least it isn't another Mother Care rant!

Several years ago I ordered 2 sofas and an armchair from LA in July and was assured they'd be delivered in September. After many phone calls involving being on hold for over an hour they were delivered in January. I will now only buy stuff I can take home there and then with the exception of made to measure curtains which somehow seem to have a prompt and reliable service (in sale obv...) It's a real shame as I love the style of almost everything in the catalogue.
