To hate the cliquey vomit-inducing threads on MN?

Because they put me right off the whole of MN Sad.

Maybe it's because I don't generally use MN for 'chatting'; more for getting advice and opinions on parenting issues, health issues, etc (have namechanged btw as am a longstanding and cowardly MNer). But I do click on 'most active' when I come on here to see what's going on, and the clique arse-kissing and 'in' jokes between some MNers make me cringe and really put me off the site. It's like the school playground mum cliques but worse - because at least there the people really do know each other.

And yes I know threads about a thread are against MN rules blah blah but I wanted to moan about and am happy to be slated for doing so - so there Grin

I just think some MNers should get over themselves and go off and start a new 'love-in' site somewhere else. The End.

Thanks Hullygully, must check that bit out. She must be quite pleased at the level of discussion she has generated, I have only ever squeezed about 4 pages out of any discussion i ever started, i am a MN underachiever.

its all cliquey i particularly think this fucking thread will be cliquey

cliquey bitchfannyfuckers

Honeydragon · 08/09/2011 18:51

I got my first thread in classics and was chuffed to buggery

bitchtwat · 08/09/2011 18:55

I want to be a bitchfannyfucker but no one's ever suggested an Arse End Of Nowhere Somewhere Deep In The Shit Hole Countryside Where They Speak Stupid meetup. Sad

bitchtwat · 08/09/2011 18:55

Ooo me too honey. I told everyone in rl about it and they were a bit Hmm but I was dead chuffed Grin

sjuperwolef · 08/09/2011 18:56

i am socially inept - shy, reserved, self concsious - around most ppl but since joining MN ive got to admit, seeing ppl jump right into threads and fights and having a laugh and a bit of banter has made me feel more confident to do it in rl.

i hate the school run usually but have started talking to a few mums at the school/on the way there and lo and behold - they arent stuck up caaahs who look down on me for being a younger mum, they are interesting intelligent caring women and mothers - just like hope i am.

NarkyPuffinLovesDiane · 08/09/2011 18:57

'I don't generally use MN for 'chatting''

Fine. Use it how you want to.

'But I do click on 'most active' when I come on here to see what's going on'

Great. It's nice to see what's trending.

'and the clique arse-kissing and 'in' jokes between some MNers make me cringe and really put me off the site.'

Whaaaat? Shock
So because you don't use MN to chat to people and make friends no-one else should? Because that's what is happening. People chat daily and so they notice when someone's not been around for a while. Or they make a joke about a previous thread. And some people are actually RL friends too.

'It's like the school playground mum cliques but worse'

You mean it's like people who have stuff in common or just happen to be in the same place regularly interacting socially? Why do you get to dictate how people interact with each other or how they use the site? You use it for 'advice and opinions on parenting issues, health issues etc.' No-one bothers you or suggests you go elsewhere.

'I just think some MNers should get over themselves and go off and start a new 'love-in' site somewhere else.'

Why do you get to dictate how people interact with each other or how they use the site? That is really nasty and incredibly arrogant. The posters you accuse of being in 'cliques' are welcoming and friendly. You on the other hand seem to be saying 'Play by my rules or go away!' And as for 'MN police', you are the only one I can see who is trying to dictate how people interact and even where they should be posting!

Tortington · 08/09/2011 18:57

i assure you they speak stupid meetup - tis the only speak to speak.

dancey · 08/09/2011 18:59

It is nice if people get on and acknowledge they are 'friends' but not to exclude outsiders with in jokes.

Can anyone go Custardo?

bitchtwat · 08/09/2011 19:02

They wouldn't speak my kind of stupid speak. They all speak French round here for some reason. I find it so exclusive. It's like they all have their own quiche and I'm not invited. I wonder if anyone else has ever felt like this.......

Tortington · 08/09/2011 19:03

yes yes - all welcome

google translate - its the dogs bollocks

Honeydragon · 08/09/2011 19:05

Saycool... Erm it helps if you are a mumsnetter to attend Wink

bitchtwat · 08/09/2011 19:06

I have an English friend out here who invites her neighbours into her house so they can communicate through Google Translate.

Still doesn't get me to any meet up though.

SayCoolNowSayWhip · 08/09/2011 19:10

Thanks Honeydragon, as long as I know the criteria Wink

LineRunner · 08/09/2011 19:10

Still, none of this really matters, does it?

NarkyPuffinLovesDiane · 08/09/2011 19:11

An 'in - joke' is in the eye of the beholder. If someone mentions ducks tomorrow and someone else makes a comment about keeping them away from Rhubarb0, anyone who has read this thread will know what they're on about. If there's some dramatic trolling then someone might refer to it a couple of weeks later on a thread. It's part of MN life.

The 'groups' that form and have running threads are more likely to have 'in-jokes'. They also keep them on that thread. It's very easy to avoid eg Nobdies current thread or the IPOAT lot if you want to. If you want to join in go onto the thread. You might wand to read a little of it first to check they're not odd fuckers get the feel of it. Didn't Nobdies actually start as a response to one of the 'name your favourite threads' for those who weren't named???

Anyone can go and start a thread. After a few pages it becomes a group. After a few threads people will accuse you of being a clique!
