To hate the cliquey vomit-inducing threads on MN?

HamsterzBollox · 08/09/2011 10:46

Because they put me right off the whole of MN Sad.

Maybe it's because I don't generally use MN for 'chatting'; more for getting advice and opinions on parenting issues, health issues, etc (have namechanged btw as am a longstanding and cowardly MNer). But I do click on 'most active' when I come on here to see what's going on, and the clique arse-kissing and 'in' jokes between some MNers make me cringe and really put me off the site. It's like the school playground mum cliques but worse - because at least there the people really do know each other.

And yes I know threads about a thread are against MN rules blah blah but I wanted to moan about and am happy to be slated for doing so - so there Grin

I just think some MNers should get over themselves and go off and start a new 'love-in' site somewhere else. The End.

OP posts:

The whole of mumsnet? With all it's topics? Puts you of each and every one? Really?

If you want info google it if this impacts so heavily on your use of Mumsnet. Or report everyone else then it will suit you just fine.

Or perhaps put this in site stuff, and I'm sure hq will get right on it Hmm

MutantPubicCrabs · 08/09/2011 11:00

Well not me as such but I'm sure someone does.

ShirleyKnotFrotGrot · 08/09/2011 11:00

I think the OP, and subsequent posters who have agreed, would like it is threads went:

OP: AIBU to sue my mother for eating my biscuits?
1st Poster: YABU
2nd: YABU
3rd: YABU
OP: OK, thanks.

porcamiseria · 08/09/2011 11:01

LOL at mutantcrabs!!!!! spot on

its a tad annoying

I dont mind people saying "hello" but some of its a bit silly and vommy

I get annoyed when people do this

its a bit, embarassing ......

Pagwatch · 08/09/2011 11:01

I get pissed off when people post racist shit.
I get pissed off when people post crap about benefits.
I get pissed off when people post " oh is that all you have to worry about. Lucky you. My whole village just died of fruit shoot poisoning'
I get pissed off when people don't read the thread and then post shit that was addressed 8 pages back.
I get pissed off when someone posts ' I have just bought this dress' and someone posts " Christ that costs what my family have to eat on fir six years'

But I still come here. We all have our crosses to bear.

Morloth · 08/09/2011 11:01

How can you give even the beginnings of a fuck about what a bunch of people are posting to each other on an internet thread?

Just go 'Meh' and close the thread, problem solved.

shakey1500 · 08/09/2011 11:02

YABU a bit. Agree with the "walking into a pub" analogy.

And deep down, if there was a thread entitled "Isn't that Shakey1500 just wonderful" I would hug myself a little bit and smile at randm moments throughout a dismal day.

sjuperwolef · 08/09/2011 11:02

when i first joined - not that long ago - i thought it was all in jokes etc too but you get to know posters over time and whilst there may be the odd in joke, i havent personally seen an official quiche takeover of a thread. unless notorious posters have a secret thread somewhere? Hmm

certain names get seen again and again but that does not a quiche make.

Morloth · 08/09/2011 11:04

The in jokes change over time I have noticed along with the people in the 'in' crowd, so I don't know how 'in' they actually are.

I remember when all this were fields...

Cereal · 08/09/2011 11:05

YANBU. If people want a cliquey party with their friends they could do it privately or on FB instead of in front of the rest of us who aren't invited (except to gaze longingly and admiringly through the window?) Much nicer if all threads are clearly open to all :)

Pagwatch · 08/09/2011 11:06

I went on holiday for three weeks and no one gave a shit. I would have liked to be missed. But a) I am needy and b) my circumstances mean I am on here more than in the pub.

Someone posted my name in a thread title once and I was really happy for the whole day.

SayCoolNowSayWhip · 08/09/2011 11:06

Gosh, people using MN to chat? Horrific. I say, MNHQ! MNHQ! Please can we have a Chat topic for every day chat and a place for groups that's, say, off the beaten track? Thanks ever so.

Hmm
Honeydragon · 08/09/2011 11:06

.......fields with running rivers of sweetcorn, Morloth?

MutantPubicCrabs · 08/09/2011 11:06

Remember the whole "Cod" saga?

"oh my god!!! COD has posted on AIBU!!"

"JESUS H CHRIST! Sod dinner, I'm going to read what COD wrote!"

"OMG!!! QUICK EVERYONE, COD HAS POSTED AGAIN IN CHAT!!"

"oh shit, I've just cum all over my keyboard".

It's just so ........... well, sad!

Pinot · 08/09/2011 11:06

For the record, I don't wish to shag Reality in the ear.

I wish to shag Pagwatch in the ear.

HTH.

hahaha! All threads are open to all though. I don't belong to any long running threads at all (I'm too much of a thread slut) and yet I don't feel, left out or uncomfortable if I've made a comment on something and then a bunch of people rock up and chat to each other.

It's a bizarre way to feel about an internet message board!

maybells · 08/09/2011 11:07

i have found mumsnet very funny and a joke is a joke but personally attacking someone you don't know for no reason, i thought that was for the playground. Anyway i do find a lot of the threads interesting and will comment if i feel i have something to add. i see see where the OP is coming from especially as a newbie.

Pinot · 08/09/2011 11:07

Pag I didn't miss you as I was away for the same three weeks.

We are, like, in tune with each other.

HallnotOates · 08/09/2011 11:07

onyl when about cod.
then me adn FAB and bibbity love them

Honeydragon · 08/09/2011 11:08

Pag, I missed you, in fact I missed you for something particular. but I'm buggered if I can remember what now Confused

AbsDuWolef · 08/09/2011 11:08

I agree Morloth. That bat used to make many many more appearances than it does now.

Sites change, people recognise each other, it happens.

And wot Pag says as well.

MutantPubicCrabs · 08/09/2011 11:09

Shagging her ear perhaps?
