To hate the cliquey vomit-inducing threads on MN?

HamsterzBollox · 08/09/2011 10:46

Because they put me right off the whole of MN Sad.

Maybe it's because I don't generally use MN for 'chatting'; more for getting advice and opinions on parenting issues, health issues, etc (have namechanged btw as am a longstanding and cowardly MNer). But I do click on 'most active' when I come on here to see what's going on, and the clique arse-kissing and 'in' jokes between some MNers make me cringe and really put me off the site. It's like the school playground mum cliques but worse - because at least there the people really do know each other.

And yes I know threads about a thread are against MN rules blah blah but I wanted to moan about and am happy to be slated for doing so - so there Grin

I just think some MNers should get over themselves and go off and start a new 'love-in' site somewhere else. The End.

So, where can I buy rubber ducks, then?

TheRhubarb · 08/09/2011 17:23

A proper fucky ducky for pleasure at bathtimes - apparently.

TheRhubarb · 08/09/2011 17:24

Oh Quint, you've gotta buy one! Someone buy a Pleasure Duck - can we have a product tester please?

Quintessentialist · 08/09/2011 17:29

We will look forward to seeing you report rhubs!

SeenButNotHeard · 08/09/2011 17:37

I am very tempted to test - if her eyes are anything to go by - it's goooooood Grin

MrGin · 08/09/2011 17:40

< laughs >

I think she's in love with her duck

TuftyFinch · 08/09/2011 17:42

But that duck isn't really in her hands. Those eyes aren't hers. I think those eys are mine! She has stolen my eyes! Police! Police!

TheRhubarb · 08/09/2011 17:44

I prefer my ducks to be real thanks. But at least with a rubber ducky you wouldn't need a condom.

I feel like we're intruding on a private moment between her and Mr Duck, who also looks pretty pleased with himself I must say.

BecauseImWorthIt · 08/09/2011 17:55

I love threads like this Grin. It's what MN is all about, people being silly and sharing having a laugh

Yes, people get to know each other here, yes, there are in jokes and yes, sometimes threads develop into cliques. Or, to use proper MN vernacular, quiches.

So what?

The only people who seem to mind are those who are new or who don't seem to get MN. In which case, there are plenty of other online communities that you can try.

And as for people using PMs to support someone's view because they are too frightened to post on the thread - what the jeff is wrong with you?!

Why not just say what you think in public? Or do you really think MN Royalty will come round to your house and duff you up for daring to agree?!

'Scuse me, VelvetSnow - I did not shag anyone in the ear and anyone who says I did is lying and deserves to be beaten round the head with a dead haddock. So there!

On another subject - I went and read the 'shake and bake chicken' thread, and I think ".....you bunch of gutterminded, hilarious cunts...." has got to take over from 'nest of vipers' as the No1 definition of mumsnetters!

SDTGisAnEvilGenius · 08/09/2011 18:03

Mostly dead? Confused

SayCoolNowSayWhip · 08/09/2011 18:07

The feeble flapping of the mostly dead haddock fin just adds to the whole beating round the face experience. :o

SuePurblybilt · 08/09/2011 18:10

The idea that quiche posters or high profile posters are somehow Fair Game is pissing me off. If I posted 'AIBU to hate these five Mnetters and the boring shit they post?' I would be squished for bullying. And rightly so which is why I just think it. Not sure why this kind of singling out or effectively asking people to justify their use of a chat forum is considered OK, just because it's aimed at people who are here lots Hmm

Cereal · 08/09/2011 18:12

Nothing wrong with people enjoying chatting, of course.

I think what I've found a bit tricky is this: It gradually dawns on you that the thread isn't a one-off and you're the only one who doesn't share the history of the thread/section. It's embarrassing to realise you're really a bit of a gatecrasher who has wandered in to someone else's party by mistake, put your foot in it by misunderstanding an "in-joke" or not realising what everyone else has already discussed and treats as common knowledge.

Could long-term threads for online groups of friends be put in a particular section, so the rest of us can avoid wandering in and starting to chat as if the thread were a one-off?

SDTGisAnEvilGenius · 08/09/2011 18:13

Do we think the haddock is terminal, or is someone going to have to volunteer to give it mouth-to-mouth? 'Cos I'm not doing it! I didn't do ears earlier and I am not doing haddocks now. You might catch crabs if you do a haddock!

GinSlinger · 08/09/2011 18:13

bloody RL intervening

Cereal · 08/09/2011 18:13
SDTGisAnEvilGenius · 08/09/2011 18:14

A sort of Quiche Quorner, as t'were, Cereal?

SDTGisAnEvilGenius · 08/09/2011 18:15

Ooops - didn't realise I was supposed to be sarcastic, Cereal - my apologies. Smile

diabolo · 08/09/2011 18:16

I think you MN Royal persons started this thread on purpose, so you could talk about rubber ducks, haddock and quiche for 30 pages didn't you?

Georgimama · 08/09/2011 18:17

Thing is Cereal, the people on this thread aren't in a clique, they honestly aren't. I talk shit in this irritating manner with anyone who stumbles along if they will play along. So does everyone else who posts like this.

See I've just come back to this thread and now they are making innane comments about haddock. No idea what, if anything, that is a reference to (cod I assume but I could be wrong). If I could think of something vaguely half witty to contribute I might. Or I might leave it or attempt to steer the chat in another direction. It's a conversation. It meanders.

SayCoolNowSayWhip · 08/09/2011 18:20

But Cereal, why would you think you'd put your foot in it for not understanding a joke or talking on a thread? I mean goodness, anyone would think this was an open forum, free to all!

Sarcastic enough? :o
