to want to know something about DDs new teacher/school?

Ok so the infants and juniors are technically the same school, but I have never been invited up to the Junior section. I know my DDs new teacher's name but she hasn't been there at the start or end of the day (in juniors they go in by themselves). I don't know anything else about her or anything about the facilities and environment of the Junior school.

Is this start of term wobbles or should we have been given a bit more induction?? DD very happy - it's just me...

Had your dd been given an induction? Last term maybe?

Won't there be a parent's evening at some point, so you can meet her? Or does it worry you that you haven't met her before DD goes into her class?
Phone and ask if you can make an appointment to pop in and speak to her if it bugs you that much - think of something spurious to ask/tell her, or just tell the truth and say that you wanted to meet her. If it was a totally new school I'd maybe want to meet them and look round, but not if DD has gone through the infants and is just moving up.

Difficult one really because it's not very practical to 'invite' parents to see the school...also you could have phoned and asked to view it.

Will there be a 'meet the teacher' parents evening just before half term? I think that's the norm for most schools.

It's a shame the kids go in by themselves though...my DS's Junior School make sure the teachers come and stand by the lines 5 mins before the bell goes so the parents can have a quick word if necessary.

Our school does 'meet the teacher' meetings at the very beginning of each term; I think its a great idea - can you suggest something like that to the Head or via the PTA?

DD has had an induction - and she is v happy. In previous years we have all been invited into the new classroom at the end of the previous year for a (group) meeting with the teacher. I think I will send a note to the teacher with my DD to suggest it.

we have not met the new teacher either. there is a lack of communication at the school. we know her name. we have not been given any pointers as to the required equipment for y1. assuming it is the obvious.

To be honest, what difference would meeting the teacher make? Is knowing that the person is a qualified teacher and has passed all requirements and CRB checks not enough? What about when DD goes to secondary school, will you want to meet all her teachers then? Seems a bit precious to me, but maybe I'm a bit harsh...

I would hate that too. Ragwort's idea is a good one - get on to your PTA or parent-governor and suggest it.

It was the same system at my DS junior school and I didn't like it so I made an appointment before they moved up and the Head showed me around. I think it is important for you to connect with the environment and staff as your child is still so young, I fully understand how you feel don't be afraid to go and look around and meet whoever you want too...it may not be school policy but their system is not right for everyone and it is up to you to do what is right for you and your child if what you would like is not provided.(whispers...I am a primary school teacher if that helps...)
