AIBU?

to be considering past life regression?

I love messing about in boats off UK coasts or the eastern seaboard of the US and in the Med.

HOWEVER, merely the names 'South China Sea' and 'Cape Horn' fill me with dread, as does the thought of the extremely deep waters of the southern Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

I'm not likely to venture into these regions in any kind of sea-going vessel but, nevertheless, I'm wondering why I have this seemingly irrational fear of the deep in those particular parts of the world.

Would it be unreasonable to explore whether past life regression can shed any light on my fears? Have you had any experience of recalling past lives and, if so, has it helped you in your present life? Is it something that you would like to do (someday, sometime, when you get round to it) or are you disbelieving of the concept of reincarnation?

If this interests you then please read Many Lives, Many Masters, by Dr Brian Weiss which is a fascinating book and really delves into this with real life cases. He is a hypnotherapist who had a payment who regressed back and what happened to her in previous lives had a big impact on her life now - he went from not really believing to believing and he talks about this patient and others - it's a great book

Yes they were mares....because nothing about the chemistry of DNA or the way it is tranlated into proteins suggests it is affected by an individual's expriences.

Gene expression may be affected by the presence or absence of other chemicals but nothing more that that. And this is the expression of the gene, not its actual physical form.

...so I would say on balance, that what you read just does not hold up to scrutiny in any way.

I had this done, I was a jester in a royal court which is true because I'm really funny. Also a mistress of an Egyptian Pharaoh that loved me so and searched for me once I left, which must be right because I had an ex boyfriend that wanted to get back with me, and most interesting I was a friend to Robin Hood....which is amazing because I now give to charity a lot.
The most revealing was that I was duped by Ponzi, and now I'm giving my money to someone who says they can regress my memory to past lives.....

I thank youWink

MigratingCoconuts - I understand what you're saying (from a scientific pov) but I did have this 'feeling' when in Wicklow, couldn't explain it and then read about ancestry and genes. I didn't think I had lived there in a previous life, just that it was familiar.

funny folk always claim to have been someone significant or lover of lord bigcock. they are never told they were ordinary or had dull wee lives and never went further than their own gate

nope...still can't see any link between your warm fuzzy feeling in Wicklow...and then you reading some old tosh about genes somewhere...sorry. Just don't.

Siamo...you write really great posts!

Funniest one I heard is where a friend of a friend, not urban myth but I come from near Glastonbury, was supposed to have been Frigg a wife of Odin (Norse mythology)

Hi OP do it if you want to. I had to lead a group through past life regression as part of a course I did at university. I loved it, so did they, while everyone saw it as a bit of fun, everyone who participated told me they really enjoyed the experence. I would recommend that you practice meditation for a while before you start this (to get the best value for money etc) so you are in the 'zone' of relaxation. Good luck, I would love to hear if you do it and how you get on

Izzy - I've been regressed before and - I WAS that FLEA!!!!

I was bumming around the South China Sea c 1600 and I noticed this scraggy peasant girl with a horrendous skin condition begging for sex. I bit her on the arse and died instantly from toxic poisoning. I have always had nightmares about muesli and this is why.
