Disabled parking badges are for the designated places NOT where the hell you like

Really need a vent! Am sick to death of seeing cars parked in the parent and baby/toddler spaces just because they have a blue badge, and not a child in sight Angry The other way around and you wouldn't hear the end of it about inconsiderate parents etc. I fully agree with the need for the disabled spaces etc, but I don't like having to choose between leaving my baby locked in the car to return the trolley (especially if out of sight) and him getting totally soaked etc if I take him with me.
Disclaimer This is made more annoying for the particular store I am referring to as there are only 2 parent spaces, and more than a dozen disabled badge holder ones. Yet because the parent ones are in between the two sets, they use those and leave all the other badge spaces empty.

[wonders where that cake came from. Wasn't aware there was cake in the house for 2shoes to steal]

Claw3 · 29/08/2011 14:37

Aliceliddell, thank you, i suppose it just becomes part of your life and what you have to do and you dont really think about it Smile

Then threads like this come up and you realise just how petty and begrudging some people are of people with disabilities, with all this talk of 'sense of entitlement'. Ds's behaviour is severe enough and he is not entitled to a blue badge, so i can only imagine what it must be like for the people who actually are.

How anyone can compare the inconvience of taking a trolley back when its raining to people with disabilities is beyond me!!

thefirstMrsDeVere · 29/08/2011 15:14

I just got back from Sainsburys

I...took....three.....boys.

No! Yes! I did. Three whole children. 8, 3 and 17mths.

Luckily it didnt rain

We made it, just.

I got a paper, a pair of shoes, a pair of leggings and two DVDS.

cornsilksi · 29/08/2011 15:16

I was going to go shopping but it's a bit grey here and I'm not sure that ds2 is waterproof yet.

ripstheirthroatoutliveupstairs · 29/08/2011 15:20

Me and DD haven't been out at all today. It's grey here and I can confirm that children don't grow the waterproof layer until they are over 11.
Only a year to go.

Claw3 · 29/08/2011 15:23

Have you thought of cling film? or better still laminating?

Onemorning · 29/08/2011 15:39

Bubble wrap?

cornsilksi · 29/08/2011 15:41

WD40 gives good coverage I've heard

Claw3 · 29/08/2011 15:45

I was going to suggest an umbrella for the walk from car to put trolley back to stop child getting wet or being locked in a car, but that would be just plain silly.

Sellotape?

DizzyKipper · 29/08/2011 15:46

If the P&C parking spaces are continually being used by blue badge holders in spite of their being disabled spaces available that tells me that either 1. the blue badge holder hasn't realised they're parking incorrectly, possibly because the P&C spaces are right in the middle of disabled spaces or 2. the P&C spaces are actually located more conveniently for access to the shop, in which case a disabled person should have priority over parents with children anyway and you should bring this up with the shop.

How long ago was it that P&C spaces got introduced? There was a time when parents didn't have the convenience of special spaces reserved for them, they're not a right.

2shoes · 29/08/2011 15:48

remember that by the time they are teens, they will refuse to ever wear a coat again and will get wet a lot

Onemorning · 29/08/2011 16:00

Gold paint would be awesome. They would be waterproof and even more precious.

Thumbwitch · 29/08/2011 16:03

Yes, but remember what happened in the Bond film - the girl covered in gold paint died because her sking couldn't breathe. So you'd have to leave an unpainted bit, which would still be soluble of course.

Thumbwitch · 29/08/2011 16:04

her skin, not sking! WTF is "sking"?

Claw3 · 29/08/2011 16:07

Sking could be like skiing, but with only one ski, it could be used to take trolley back in the snow?

VeraCanSignChocolateAndWine · 29/08/2011 16:07

Seriously is this thread still going? Like that OP hasnt returned.

thefirstMrsDeVere · 29/08/2011 16:12

Ah ha!

You can laminate children without squeezing them through the laminator.

Put them in the pouch and iron round the sides.

Hey presto - you can include a few sandwiches and a fruit shoot for a really long shopping trip.

Thumbwitch · 29/08/2011 16:13

Ah yes! A gold painted sking for trolley return, excellent plan!

I like this thread - it has fits of randomness in between the sensible and somewhat less sensible fighting discussion.

Sleepglorioussleep · 29/08/2011 16:13

Had temporary injury/disability. I would have loved a blue badge but every time I allowed myself that thought I reminded myself that in a few short weeks I would be weight bearing again and no longer incapacitated. And told myself off most severely to boot.

Claw3 · 29/08/2011 16:15

Damn, now you tell me thefirstmrsdevere. I will have to take the steam roller back and ask for a refund.

Claw3 · 29/08/2011 16:22

Now your talking Thumbwitch a pimp my trolley return bit of bling, could we also have a massive gold pound coin to hang around our necks, if so im in.

VeraCanSignChocolateAndWine · 29/08/2011 16:32

Ooh who's pimping trolleys?

Ah ha! Iron around the sides. Got it. Must not forget to add the cotton wool first.

Claw3 · 29/08/2011 16:40

Thumbwitch was adding some bling to the sking! She hasnt patented the idea yet though, so get in quick.

VeraCanSignChocolateAndWine · 29/08/2011 16:43

Keep thinking about those gold memory keepsake mound baby feet. Are they real feet from where the gold coating went wrong?

TandB · 29/08/2011 16:44

Be careful with your laminators. My MIL decided to make illicit use of her work laminator to laminate her National Trust card. Unfortunately it broke and she couldn't pretend it wasn't her as it had a half laminated 'KFP's MIL's name' stuck in the middle of it.

It would be even more incriminating if one of your DCs was found thrashing around inside....
