AIBU?

To HATE the beach and everthing that goes with it dh thinks i have issues!

i went to his watersports comp today, last time i went i was pg and hated it. Went today with the dcs and still hated ir.
I hate being cold, i hate it being windy, i dislike those women who sit in groups with their kids with their windbreakers/white stuff clothes/tousled hair/surfy jumpers and how they dont mind being there and their dcs play happily. I hate the feel of sand, i hate feeling dirty, i do not want to sleep in a bloody tent when i have a house, im not 5 its not fun!

Dh thinks i am too uptight and that i cant relax, and i think he has a point, i mean i could cope with the beach if it was in front of a 5* spa resort with a sun lounger and parasol. I like hotels, i like shopping, i like lunches and coffees and spas.

So aibu for not liking the other stuff? Is dh right? Am i an uptight freak who just cant chill? Or is anyone else like this?
(oh and im not slagging people off who do like this stuff, i just dont)

I love a hot sunny sandy beach ( where I can lie on a sun lounger under a palm tree drinking a rum punch and reading Jilly Cooper )

And also love beaches near where I live ( south Wales ) I love sand in my toes , Tenby on New Years Day is a family tradition , ( blimey it's cold )

What I hate is organised, false jolly things to do.

Each to their own so YANBU , don't go if you don't want to

I was going to say YABU, but the scenario you described - YAsoooooooooooooooooNBU.

I agree - I hate camping, and I hate cold and windy beaches.

Now, hot beaches with the sea that's warm like bathwater and turquoise, with someone near by to bring you cocktails - THAT's proper beach.

LOVE the beach - In the cold, raining or better still, snowing and windy!

I know im a freak but i cant think of anything worse than sitting on a beach in the heat! Especially on holiday - too much to see and do!

LOL. YANBU...I even hate the beach when it is sunny - because I burn and my nose then flakes, not even a hint of ever tanning, or any suncream actually staying on.

I also have to lug water around with me so I don't get dehydrated and get a migraine (which I will get anyway because of the glare of the sun, even wearing sunglasses), then have to run off to the loo every half hour because i've had to drink so much.

Then there's the people on the beach who all look like they're enjoying relaxing in the sun and I'm just really jealous.

Definitely NBU.

YANBU - there's not much to like.

Sand everywhere, having to put suncream on, having to take all provisions for the day, too windy, too hot, too cold, sea too cold, pebbles hurt your feet, no where to go to the loo.

Then taking all the sodding sand home with you. Yuk.

What I do love is a beautiful walk on a cold day, all wrapped up, with a tea shop at the end and a B&B to look forward to.

But I do love camping!

I love the beach, grew up very near it and we spent every day of the summer holidays on the beach. Really every day, regardless of the weather, I think my mum was slightly obsessed.

I now live 75 miles from the sea, but do enjoy going when it's sunny. I don't sit there in the rain huddled in a towel any more though.

Neither do I wear White Stuff. And I won't camp.

I love the beach (except forrin beaches wiv loads of people) But it's better with less people, so next time just don't go.

I really do not like the beach. Well, sand in particular. I LOVE the sea, just not sand. When my parents first took me to a beach I apparently screamed the sky down. Or a lot anyway. Beaches are dead mountains

Watersports comp? S coast Cornwall by any chance? Nationals? If one I think it might be YA DEF NBU

Don't worry not hatred of beach just of crazy stressful comp

If a different comp then guess same rule applies child comps are stressful and full of mad parents - you are def NBU to hate beach comps in cold and wet but will like the beach again when can take it .... or leave it!

I don't like beaches even in so called lovely spots. I don't like sand and I am not keen on the sea. I can't do the full sun and really hot weather so have to be under a shade of some form, and would eed some form of seat as can never get comfy on the sand with just a towel.

9y DD loves the sea but hates being on the beach after and getting sand stuck to her skin. DH likes the beach and sand for the odd day. Luckily we never have to do beach type holidays - would be my idea of hell, lol!

Dh thinks I am grumpy for not enjoying a day on the beach but I can maybe do 2 or 3 hours or so and then I want to go.

Oh - and I was ust the same on our day trip to the beach in Florida on a lovely white beach with baking hot sea. 3 hours was my maximum. I was hot and uncomfortable and desperate to go. DH and DD loved being in the sea though, although as penance DH did come out burnt!

Just give up and give in, don't forget your jumper, take a windshield tent (DP or DC can carry it), book and wine, you'll soon see it's not SO bad. The 'White Stuff women' are probably used to organising the family for the beach and they know the secrets. The one I learnt a few years ago was: Children are there to carry stuff and give you an excuse to bring as many home comforts as possible.

I love the beach but i get what asec means by being freaked by the vastness of the sea!

Camping though! UGH! I find it really exhausting, and usually wet and cold.

The thing you should do is parlay your forced trip to the beach into earning yourself the sort of day out you crave, with the coffee and the shopping and the spa. Do it for the sake of the children and the DH, smile and try to make the best of it and don't be such a wet blanket, then extract what you want for yourself afterwards. Give and take and all that.

Grew up near a beach and love them.

I love the beach, if it's a bit chilly I just wrap up. I hate really hot weather though so I'm not a fan of beach holidays in hot places. It's my dh that isn't too keen on the beach and will come up with excuses not to go, too hot, too cold, it might rain etc.

Have always loved the beach, it's so relaxing and even with young kids it's still one of the easiest options, they seem to behave better on the beach and will happily play with the sand for ages, have a paddle and look for shells.

My DD(8) says she hates the beach and is really pretending that she enjoys herself. In truth, there is no way she could fake the fact that the only time she really lets go and has fun is by the sea! She is quite an anxious child and I can see it all stacking up in her head beforehand - the sand, the cold, all the things people have listed below. So we take her on 'medicinal' beach trips anyway, because it is so nice to see her leaping about in the shallows, flashing her dimple that we see so rarely. She will flatly deny all this on the way home because all she can think about is that she's had to abandon her knickers or something.

YANBU - I have gritted (literally!) my teeth through the occasional (once or twice a year) beach sessions for the last few years because I felt DS (now 6) 'ought' to play on the beach. This year we offered to take him when we were on holiday (we'd been at the pool all day every day) and he declined saying he didn't like sand .

The best 'beach' I know is the one at a hotel in Malta I stay at quite regularly - it's a concrete patio (over rocks, v few sandy beaches in Malta and most of them are heaving with people all the time) and then some steps down into the sea!

I would say YABU to not like the beach-as in at all.

But what you are/were doing sounds awful to me.

Watching watersports all day(?) sleeping over & more sports watching the next day?

Sounds awful.
