Who actually cares enough to send this chap to prison? Why? Is he dangerous? Is he disgusting? Is he a criminal? here

worraliberty, if nakedness itself makes you feel sick then you need to talk to someone about it.

Most of the time it's not terribly practical to be naked in the UK anyway - we don't have the weather for it. Even in warmer countries people generally wear something, but in many they are less obsessed than we are with it. There is no need to be afraid and distressed by human bodies. We all have one and they only really come in two models (though admittedly a range of sizes :o )

I'm happy enough to wear clothes, but find the fear and distress quite weird. Especially as there are perfectly respectable naturists doing the same thing. If people seriously think being naked is evil why are they tolerated?

WantToKnowThis · 24/08/2011 19:37

He just looks cold. Coldness = stiffness. I wouldn't want my child seeing that.

GypsyMoth · 24/08/2011 19:38

He isn't confining it to 'rambling' though is he!!!!!

worraliberty · 24/08/2011 19:38

would people really call the police if they saw a chap rambling naked? really? i might smirk a bit and wonder about his mental health but if someone was just wandering along minding their own business unclothed i wouldn't

Perhaps not but what if you were a vulnerable young woman who had perhaps been assaulted in the past?

Not everyone thinks like you Cervix so I'm sure the police would get a fair few calls.

AtYourCervix · 24/08/2011 19:39

rambling across a moor, rambling down the street - difference? where?

Are you suggesting sex offenders rubbing against DCs is fine if they were fully clothed?! Equally Hmm

worraliberty · 24/08/2011 19:41

Thanks for your concern but no, nakedness itself doesn't necessarily make me feel sick.

Fat, wobbly naked people would make me feel a bit sick...as would naked OAPs or anyone else who isn't particularly pleasing to the eye if I'm going to be honest.

The human body can look quite beautiful...however in reality, much of the time it doesn't.

onagar · 24/08/2011 19:43

Coldness = stiffness. I wouldn't want my child seeing that.

Oh dear. Someone explain to WantToKnowThis. I'm not going to cos I'm a man and it's inappropriate. :o

onagar · 24/08/2011 19:45

worraliberty, that sounds like a perfectly good argument for forcing OAPs to cover their arms and legs and perhaps wear masks so we needn't see distressing wrinkles.

discrete · 24/08/2011 19:46

I agree that it's frankly ridiculous.

Nudity is widely accepted in many parts of the world. Nothing much happens.

As to the 'more likely to get attacked outside a nightclub' view - the same has been said about miniskirts, skimpy tops, tight jeans, alcohol, you name it.

And it is true. But if something is more likely to make someone attack someone else, it is the attacker's attitude that needs to be looked at, not the victim's. Whatever that something is.

worraliberty · 24/08/2011 19:47

Nah, just covering their tits, fannys, cocks and arses is fine imo.

discrete · 24/08/2011 19:52

Anecdotally, I did once come across someone cycling naked. I was alone, in the middle of an isolated forest.

I didn't think anything much about it, tbh, other than how much cooler than me he must be (I was going for a run, and it was very hot).

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 24/08/2011 19:53

I wonder what the rape figures are for nudist colonies vs the general population.....

Blueberties · 24/08/2011 19:54

Not "frankly ridiculous" unless you live in an African or remote Asian village, or in a nudist area.

These are very old-fashioned, 50-year-old ideas, to think it's uptight to wear clothes.

izzywhizzyletsgetbusy · 24/08/2011 19:55

WantToKnowThis male appendages retract when exposed to cold conditions - when this occurs, a willy warmer can save the day (or night).

UKSky · 24/08/2011 19:56

I think they should just let him get on with it and when he's finished he'll be gone from Scotland. I think he made it most of the way from Land's End without being arrested. It was only when he got to Scotland.

He does wear his map covering his penis so all you see is a bare bum.

Blueberties · 24/08/2011 19:56

Onagar. I think it's very rude to suggest that someone who doesn't want to see other people naked in the street "needs to talk to someone" - as if they are mentally unhinged.

I think that's very rude and insulting.

MoominsAreScary · 24/08/2011 20:00

Hmm naked people leaning over the salad counter in the local tesco, no thanks

K999 · 24/08/2011 20:10

He's committing a crime, been convicted so therefore he is a criminal. If he doesn't want to go to jail he just has to put clothes on. It's his choice. I do however think that it costs the taxpayer a lot of money to keep folk in prison. I wonder if he has to wear clothes in prison? I bet he does.

izzywhizzyletsgetbusy · 24/08/2011 20:19

Mr Gough has already trekked starkers from Land's End to John O'Groats twice, but it seems to be taking him an inordinate length of time to complete his third trek or get back to his start ing point.

Having seen pictures of Mr Gough decked out in his massive rucksack and other accoutrements, it is not immediately apparent that he is naked - in fact he seems to be wearing a lot more than the average sunbather or some females who go out for a good time at the weekend.

If Mr Gough disdains wearing a kilt in the traditional manner, perhaps a sporran would spare the blushes and delicate sensibilities of the Scottish people?

I would suggest that when Mr Gough is released from his current prison sentence, the authorities arrange for him to be driven to open countryside before release otherwise Scottish law will be open to the charge of breaking a butterfly on a wheel.

GypsyMoth · 24/08/2011 20:21

He turned up at court naked too

And why should authorities 'drive' him anywhere when other released prisoners don't get that treatment? What's so special about gough? Nothing, he is a timewaster

MightyQuim · 24/08/2011 20:23

I think it's right he gets locked up. He is knowingly and repeatedly breaking the law.
I don't think I should have to pay taxes because I don't agree with how the government spend them but I pay them because I know that if I don't I risk going to jail. This is the same.
I also don't think that this mans 'right' to be publicly nude should override everyone elses right to go about their daily business unhampered without having to close their eyes/turn away if they don't want this mans cock/arsehole in their eyeline.
And finally if everyone went around starkers how would we know which people were flashers? Grin

fit2drop · 24/08/2011 20:35

Gah !!this guy has just found a way to remain in prison , He obviously -enjoys feels safe has no resposibilities- and prefers that lifestyle.
I wonder does he wear clothes whilst in prison.
Maybe MH issues maybe not but I really believe he is happy to live within an institutionalised setting.

izzywhizzyletsgetbusy · 24/08/2011 20:38

You are surely aware that there have been, and will continue to be, numerous occasions where special arrangements are made for the release of 'notorious' prisoners Tiff?

Not all prisoners walk out of the gates of prison in the manner depicted by films/tv.

hiddenhome · 24/08/2011 20:38

He's a pathetic attention seeker who needs to get a life Hmm
