It's not too much to suggest, is it? Instead of mithering all of cyberspace..just a thought.

YANBU it is laziness a lot of the time

Like "When do the clocks go back?"

but then you'll always get people who answer them instead of pointing out it's quicker to Google than start a bloody thread.

Honeydragon · 24/08/2011 00:20

That was actually my definitive answer Pan Grin

jasper · 24/08/2011 00:20

you are right, Pan!

LineRunner · 24/08/2011 00:22

Sometimes it is an attention seeking device.

LineRunner · 24/08/2011 00:23

Ah. come on, Worra. The clocks go back in 2012. And 2013.

MardyBra · 24/08/2011 00:24

Yes let's a just go home.

And next time there's a ff/bf debate (or religion v atheists or whatever), maybe MN HQ could write a little programme which directs posters to the appropriate threads because it's all been said before

carpwidow · 24/08/2011 00:25

Could someone please tell me what date Christmas is this year? Thank you. And also, while you're at it, could you find out for me if it is true that the Tudors reigned from 1485 to 1603. I'd be vare, vare grateful ;)

worraliberty · 24/08/2011 00:26

What the fuck will I do without my clocks then LineRunner??? Shock

At least I can get my money back and buy a mooncup I suppose Grin

Whatmeworry · 24/08/2011 00:28

YABU - if everyone just googled it we wouldn't be able to write sweary words and go waay off topic :)

More seriously quite a few of the topics are "hard calls" so its interesting to get the "Wisdom of Crowds" view. Except when the topic is bounfd to attract the howl of some special interest group/s.

Pan · 24/08/2011 00:28

I Know Honey. I could tell.Grin

Yes MN is great for lots and lots of things.

But there is a sort of pervasiveness about it (www thing) which seems to offers solutions which are never tailor-made to the to individual.

I heart the internet, but temper that with a concern about the laziness in the thinking it invites. And lots of that is in evidence on MN.

Worra, I'd move close to Stonehenge and pray for good weather. Smile

Honeydragon · 24/08/2011 00:30

Yes and google can't tell you where your toddlers put you car keys but mumsnet has a high success rate.

Pan · 24/08/2011 00:31

I think some of you aren't taking this seriously.Grin

My Ds (8) has been utterly stoked this week because he finally figured out the answer to the worlds most important question. It's taken him years and whilst he loves google with a worrying passion, he is still capable of going to library and using the reference section. Balancebis the key.

But his real pride was in figuring out a question where the answer could readily be found, except with the realms if his own head.

I found myself lingering on this forum because aside from the support and camaraderie I discovered that I enjoy learning most of all when I can do it in a utterly purple way Wink

Honeydragon · 24/08/2011 00:40

And mumsnet doesn't forgive the terrible typing from my phone as readily as google, and thus I hope to improve Blush

Whatmeworry · 24/08/2011 00:40

I Googled the OP question - copied top results - sorted :o

Pan · 24/08/2011 00:43

Honey.okaaayy.

LR - I can top that.

dd wrote a story when she was about 6 yo. It read:

"There once was a little girl. The End."

Others were concerned by this lack of imagination. Her mum and I saw it as evidence of her being an existenitial feminist.

Pan · 24/08/2011 00:48

ok.
I give in. IABU. The interweb doesn't compromise thinking for oneself, and if I need to know if penny-round collars are out of fashion there is nothing wrong in asking MN.Smile

Honeydragon · 24/08/2011 00:49

Grin parental opinion rules, I feel Pan

The ultimate question btw was Why the Duck Billed Platypus. It has been trotted out as Ds for every "lazy" questionnhevhas asked over the years.

I dislike lazy questions. As do you, I guess Grin

Honeydragon · 24/08/2011 00:50

So Pan ..... You could've just thought that through?

Whatmeworry · 24/08/2011 00:52

Think of MN as an opinion search engine.....
