I asked this on a thread considering make up for a 5 year old but thought I should post my own thread.

I like tattooed men and find tattoos on men and women very sexy and a turn on. But I dont make any conection towards sexualising kids if I see fake tattoos on them.

I hate bikinis and bras for girls, but would allow my dd to dress up at home not with her own but Im pretty sure she has put on my bra for a laugh.

I allow my dd aged 5 to have make up at home and paint it all over her self, I may put on a clear lip gloss for a party if she asked but I wouldnt suggest it to her, although I wouldnt ever make her up in obviouse make up to leave the house.

My dd likes "boys" things and "girls" things in sence of clothes, toys and activities, some people describe her as tom boy but I dont like that term personaly I dont even like to gender categorise her prefferences in terms of toys games activities etc.

I have read alot about sexualising children with make up clothes on MN but I have never read anyone express a view on fake tattoos, just wondered what people though of them on children?

Hmmm. It's not something I have ever really given much thought to. That probably means I don't give a monkey's!

maypole1 · 22/08/2011 21:24

My son has mushi monster ones to be honest he was a bit Hmm because they came off when he was swimming

They look really fake and kids love them

pamplemousserose · 22/08/2011 21:24

I loathe them.

ddubsgirl · 22/08/2011 21:26

i dont think it does,it washes off,i remember getting them off the ice cream man for 5p lol kids have used them for many years.

squeakytoy · 22/08/2011 21:26

I remember the ones that you got with bubblegum when I was a kid. Germoline flavoured bubblegum if I remember right. All the mums hated those... kids loved them.

Nanny0gg · 22/08/2011 21:26

Hate them.
Especially when they start peeling away.
But then I hate the real thing too.

Depends on the look IMO.
Ds likes the Spiderman ones you get in the sweets and they look blatantly fake.

Not too keen on realistic looking ones.
(and yes I'm a hypocrite as I am inked)

BullieMama · 22/08/2011 21:29

My dd usually spends the summer holidays covered in fake tatoos, she got herself a glittery skull and cross bones at a festival on the weekend and it looks great !

She has them on the proviso that they will be removed before she goes back to school.

RebelFromTheWaistDown · 22/08/2011 21:30

I love them. They are great fun and they come off when you are sick of them. I hate real ones tho.

PotPourri · 22/08/2011 21:30

I think they look manky. But I don't really like face painting either. Mine have never asked for them so far, but if they did I would probably say ok.

I remember the bubble gum we used to get from the icecream van used to have them in them - little aciiiiiiid men!

DogsBestFriend · 22/08/2011 21:31

I don't like them but allowed my DDs to play around with them when younger, largely because their best friends did and that's when they'd have them. BFs mum (who is my friend and lovely) has real tattoos so I didn't want to appear rude to her!

I guess my view on them goes under the "Pick your battles" rule.

usualsuspect · 22/08/2011 21:32

I don't have a problem with them

pictish · 22/08/2011 21:33

Ach my lad has enjoyed them in his time....harmless enough.

DogsBestFriend · 22/08/2011 21:33

PotPourri, now I love to see kids taking part in facepainting. Being no artist myself I'm always impressed by a good facepainter's skills and having girls I loved the pretty butterflies and stuff they'd choose.

But then I'm a big kid! :o

BullieMama · 22/08/2011 21:35

Tatoos are common are they BeerTricksPotter? ... now there's a whole other thread ....Grin

ChippingIn · 22/08/2011 21:35

I hate them - but not because they're adult/sexual or whatever as I don't see them that way - I just think they look messy and tatty and spoil the look of their lovely skin (much the same reasons as I hate them on adults really Grin). A friends little one had some that stayed on ages - now she looks like she has a weird skin disease as she has all these pale patches up and down her arms!

Nagoo · 22/08/2011 21:36

I don't like them but it's a matter of minutes until DS asks for them and I'd let him if it made him happy. Not for school or anything though.

I think they are fine. Just fun.

Sandalwood · 22/08/2011 21:42

I think they look awful. But not in a sexualizing children way - perhaps that's because I don't associate adult tattoos with sexiness.

DD's got to 6 and shown no interest in these tattoo things, which I'm quite pleased about, but have to say I did groan when I found out that a party she's got coming up is a beauty thing with nails and those tattoo transfer things.

redwineformethanks · 22/08/2011 21:42

Bit of fun for children. Don't like permanent tattoos on adults

festi · 22/08/2011 21:43

I agree they do like a little manky when they are fadding, mind you dd still walks around with them faded.

I remember the bubblegum ones too. Lick it and stick it on your skin. Fab. I loved one. And, guess what, I grew into a tattoo free adult.
