for an entire year i have wondered why my DD, who is light on her feet, has been getting through Rocket Dogs at a rate of knots....

at the grand old age of 13 she refused to wear Clarks anymore....so i asked on here and everyone thought i was being unreasonable and so i let her have Rocket Dogs....but they wore out so fast!

Yesterday i went to buy her a new pair for the new school year to find that £38 shoes are in fact plastic. cheapo nasty plastic.

the only leather ones in the shop were Hush puppies at exactly £50!! (and she hated them and wouldnt even try em on)

so im expecting this naff pair to last about 8 weeks judging on the last lot....

why arent they leather for that stupid price? i cant believe it. i need a Wine

I have some Nokout boots that I use for walking and they have faired really well considering I walk between 20-30 miles a week...

I didn't even know they did kids shoes!

You still paid the £38 knowing they're plastic?

Talk about feed the fashion junkie!

Just buy her a normal leather pair and tell her if she wants brand names, to save her Christmas/Birthday money.

where do i buy leather shoes?

Barratts and Shuh were full of absolute tripe.

her leather Clarks lasted for a full year. (they were fitted and i kept going back to check and they still fitted a year later!)

back to Clarks then? she is 14 now and may rebel....

she isnt a label junkie. its just that after hours of trudging around a shopping centre i had got to the till before i asked if they were leather....thats when they said no but the hush puppies were....at £50!!! so yes i still bought them. i couldnt face starting again tbh.

just looked at kickers....they are ugly suckers and there is no way she would let a single pair of those grace her tiny toes....

she has very very narrow feet.
shoe shopping is a night mare at best...kickers look like they are built for wider feet than hers tbh....

Ooh I love Rocket Dogs! I don't wear leather shoes, so I'm thrilled they're not, but as the mother of a DS who goes through shoes like they're made of paper, I completely understand your frustration at the durability!

Apart from the fact they are black , they don't look very suitable for school. Maybe that's me just being old :D

But YANBU that's a lot of money for what is essentially a strip of plastic. I used to wear trainers to school all the time and was chased around by the horrible geography teacher who kept threatening to write to my mother. I told her I couldn't wear uncomfortable shoes :)

Yes, my friend has had the exact same experience with her 13 yr old dd. What a load of rubbish and a waste of money.

Ah! Thank you!

This vegetarian/vegan family owe you one, at last, something which DD2 might wear! :)

I have bought Rocket Dogs from TKMaxx before- worth a look. They may still not last but at least they would be cheaper. :)

My dd is 12 and finally we agreed on new look ballet pumps ( not ideal) £20 but at least they are leather. I wish there was somewhere that bridged the gap between Clarks and fashion shops.

Umm, if theyre not lasting very long then why buy such expensive ones? H&M do similar for around £6 or most high st stores tbh if she wants to wear rubbish then let her but don't pay that much for it, they look about as good as the prim ark ones imo

I thought ballet pumps were quite bad for your feet as they are not held firmly on the foot so either have to be worn quite tight or you end up clawing your toes to hold them on.

Not sure your 13 yr old will care and will insist that everyone is wearing them etc.

the problem is her feet are unusually narrow - so the whole thing is usually a nightmare.
tethers - i wish id posted this before i bought....those pumps are almost identical to what she got and leather....ill book mark that site. thanks.

Um - DD is 13.5yo, and Clarks do Bootleg shoes in teen styles that are VERY similar to rocket dogs, but leather, DD is very hard on her shoes (at 9yo, demolished a pair of Ricosta's in 8 weeks FFS), but her pair of Bootleg size 5 ballet pumps have lasted since January, and they're in such good condition that she's going back to school in them in September.

I have bought her a pair of Rocket Dog pumps once before. Nver again. They lasted 3 weeks of school before the sole fell off. That's only 15 days wear. I DID get my money back though!

Clarks also have this year a more 'fashion-ny' brand of shoes, that seems to bridge the gap between the Bootleg ones and the Ladies ones, DD really liked the look of them, but I can't remember the name of them. Definately in the Clarks Ladies section, so it might be well worth a look. Think all the styles of that 'make' of Clarks shoes were £32.

HTH.
