Just that really.

DS2's leg

DS2 fell on some shop bought chips at the coast 2 weeks ago, this is his leg today. Still infected but on the mend.

We used to have that Gap jumper for DS. It was lovely.

Sandalwood · 19/08/2011 15:05

I can't see any pics.
But I would have thought the kiosk could at least have let you have access to cold running water.

TimeWasting · 19/08/2011 15:14

How big is the burn?

TheLadyEvenstar · 19/08/2011 15:16

BoE I loved it am Sad he grew out of it.

Its not a huge burn but it has turned nasty.

OP posts:
worraliberty · 19/08/2011 15:16

Surely the burn only looks as nasty as it does because it got infected?

I'm not taking anything away from the injury, I'm just saying you're warning that kiosk bought chips can cause an injury like that....but isn't the severity more down to the infection?

TimeWasting · 19/08/2011 15:19

Anything bigger than an (old) 10p needs to be seen straight away. Leanred that at school or Guides I think.

How have you been treating it?
What has the GP said?

TheLadyEvenstar · 19/08/2011 15:20

Time, he has been on Antibiotics for a week (finished yesterday) plus an iodene dressing and mepore to cover it.

Am going back to GP now.

...that's what I mean it needed running water for 10 mins.
But you guys were sitting eating your chips by then.

I would've thought the kiosk would let you use a tap if at all possible.

worraliberty · 19/08/2011 15:30

When my friend's DS was 4yrs old, he was playing on a beach and walked across a red hot discarded portable BBQ...just left on the sand by a stupid family who were more interested in burger buns than leaving it safe.

She grabbed him and dipped him in the freezing cold sea for 10 or 15 mins while her DH went and got the car.

The Hospital said her quick thinking probably stopped him having to have skin grafts.

KnickersOnOnesHead · 19/08/2011 15:40

Wow.

TheLadyEvenstar · 20/08/2011 02:34

and if I could have got to running water I would have done, instead I sat with him and tipped a 5 litre bottle of freezing water on his leg.

Half a mile?! That's take at least ten minutes.

LadyFlumpalot · 21/08/2011 08:09

I thought this was going to be about food poisoning. I got really ill last year after eating some chips from a burger van. Admittedly they did taste disgusting but I was starving!

Your poor son TLES. Imagine if he had just shoved one straight in his mouth! I hope he feels better soon. Sad

miniwedge · 21/08/2011 08:13

Half a mile doesn't take ten minutes to walk...... Fgs

Anyway am Confused your son was in agony, he had a nasty burn, so you thought you'd sit and eat your chips anyway?

Is this another one of your weirdy threads?

LynetteScavo · 21/08/2011 08:34

It does if you walk a 3 miles per hour.

TimeWasting · 21/08/2011 08:44

Ten minutes at most sorry. 3 miles an hour is about average for someone not hurrying.

EduStudent · 21/08/2011 12:02

I wouldn't have thought salty sea water would be the best thing to put on a burn. Especially when it's got sand and and bits of stuff floating about in it.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Don't tell everyone or we'll all end up with luke warm chips to keep those little imps Elf & Safety happy!!

I really can't imagine chips that hot - they never seem hot enough to me.

GetOrfMoiCarbsClaire · 21/08/2011 12:21

Poor kid, but imagine that the ill effect is caused by a horrible infection (I had a bacterial infection in sunburn when I was a kid and it was hideously painful and took ages to heal) and the fact water wasn't poured on the burn.

A couple of litres of water poured on a burn is no good, he should have been shoved under a running tap for a good quarter of an hour. Surely there must have been public loos near the beach.

saladsandwich · 21/08/2011 12:40

your poor dc :( my ds gets skin infections all the time, might need a different antibiotic if it's not clearing up after a week on them.

i never buy those chips from kiosks, theres normally much cheaper, nicer chip shops on the sea front
