in regards to my special needs ds. They are conflicting, argumentative and quite frankly not helpful. I come home upset as we are not getting anywhere with any of his problems and could do without listening to all these different interpretations of my ds.

This is why every family is supposed to have one 'lead professional', as per the 'Every Child Matters' and 'Think Family' models.

I take it that you don't? Or do, and it's not helping?

is this with regards to Primary school and getting a statement?
As a trainee teacher I must say I'm completely shocked at the terrible system there is in place for SEN children.
Sorry to hear it's not going well - do you also get a say in these meetings or are you just listening to others?

thanks line and Jazz he's 10 now and has had many meetings, he has an obvious disability/special need but it's the underlining issues and quirks right through to the in your face issues that are all being disregarded. He's been statemented since 2yo but for some reason the system doesn't work for us. There is conflict and divide among professionals as well as parents. Yes we get a say it's just overlooked or we are told how wrong we are!! Iv'e had enough and tbh don't know how or why I have put up with it for as long!!

I'm sorry for you. Unfortunately IME there is so much bureaucracy with regards to SEN before they think about what's best for the child... :(

It may now be time to put in a complaint. find out what your local authority policy/procedure is and check if they are following it. there should be timescales.

If I were in your shoes I would send a letter to the Council's Director of Children's Services (DCS) - you will be able to find the name and address (and probably email) on the Council's web site. Ask them to give you a clear understanding of who is the Lead Professional for your child. Tell him or her that there is unacceptable conflict and divide amongst the professionals and that you wish the DCS to resolve these matters. Ask the DCS if he or she (or their deputy) will meet with you and the Lead Professional to discuss the problems and tell you the solutions.
