To let my 2 year old play naked.

We were in the local park today. It has a new sand and water area which wasn't open last time we were there.
DD was happily playing in it, pumping the water tap affair and ended up with her jeans and top drenched. She stripped them off and carried on playing in just her knickers. She eventually got these soaked too and as she hates wet knickers, took them off.
I only had 1 clean pair and 1 clean dress with me so let her carry on in the buff as she was having fun.
There was a couple of women giving cat's bum mouths but I ignored, she's 2 FFS and I was right there with her. Not sure what was going to happen to her.

Anyway was telling DH tonight and he was really shocked I'd let her do this. I just think there's nothing more lovely and innocent than kids not giving a damn.

So Mumsnet jury, AIBU?

Pants on i think is better

ILoveDolly · 16/08/2011 20:14

She's 2 - still a baby. There is not 'a perv' lurking around every corner. It is a children's play area and you were supervising her. Let her enjoy her innocence.

Pippinintherain · 16/08/2011 20:15

Fair dos on the accident front, but a wee would have gone in there knickers or no knickers.

I really don't think there is anymore danger from perverts these days than years ago, it is just more widely reported. I don't want to ruin my children's innocence with a fear of something that is very unlikely to happen.

Ah bless her. My dd1 was the same, and I have pics of her at 3 naked in sandpits at various locations. She used to rip her clothes off at the sight of sand and roll around in it. No one ever blinked an eye as I recall, and there were always crowds of people around.

pigletmania · 16/08/2011 20:16

That happened to us in Malta a year ago when dd was 3, and did not have her swimming costume to hand and only one change of clothes. YANBU, is only a baby, hardly a 5/6 year old.

PelvicFloorOfSteel · 16/08/2011 20:18

YANBU I can't believe so many people wouldn't let their children run round naked Sad, it is such a natural and innocent thing to do. I don't think there is any proof that there are more perverts around, just a lot more paranoia.

KateBC · 16/08/2011 20:23

Having just spent the morning with DS (2.3) running round the beach in the buff (impromptu swimming session, fully clothed and I totally wasn't prepared!) I would say YADNBU! I didn't notice any cats bum faces, but I did notice at least 3 other toddlers in their birthday suits, I think it's lovely for them to be able to be that free

BoysRusxxx · 16/08/2011 20:24

YANBU at all. I wish I had the confidence to ignore peoples disapproving looks, this is something I am working on though.

My DC LOVE running around naked as do dp and i! So far we have kept it to the garden. Id say she had a great time :)

janetsplanet · 16/08/2011 21:37

whilst at a haven site last week DD (7) got out of the pool and into the shower. she stripped naked as i washed her hair (in front of everyone). the little girl in the next shower then copied her. noone batted an eyelid and it was a public pool with showers in full view

naked 2yr olds is fine

troisgarcons · 16/08/2011 21:38

Nothing wrong at that age ... but MNs have a paedo round every corner

bananapirate · 16/08/2011 21:49

I have no idea why, but I don't like seeing any age children naked in public.
It's not a paedophile thing, and I know it's natural and innocent, but I don't want to see it, sorry.
Fine for my kids in the back garden.
But would cover them up if we had visitors.

FabbyChic · 16/08/2011 21:52

In your own back garden fine, out in a public place NOT FINE.

FabbyChic · 16/08/2011 21:54

Oh and there are peado's in every town, every city, and around every corner, they come in the form of nursery workers, doctors, teachers, housewives, dustmen. Just because you cannot distinguish them from someone else does not mean they do not exist.

rhondajean · 16/08/2011 21:55

Walking past a canal in the early July heatwave, we went past a tied up boat and a man with two small boys splashing in a water filled dinghy naked as the day they were born. They must have been about 2 and 3. I thought it was lovely to see them all so relaxed!

However, my two dds (6 and 11) were HORRIFIED, they even asked me if it was legal to let children take their clothes off - in a huge stage whisper, rather embarassingly.

MirandaGoshawk · 16/08/2011 21:55

I would've kept her knickers on.

Some people are very funny about nakedness, even of young children.

Iggly · 16/08/2011 21:56

Fabby Hmm you make it sound like those who aren't paedophiles are in the minority.

breatheslowly · 16/08/2011 22:03

I wouldn't have an issue with nakedness, but would wonder about wee and poo. It isn't obvious when you see a naked 2 yo that they are toilet trained, many aren't.

Oh FGS 'bits'

She's two!

My two year old loves being bare and I would have done the same op. My five year old and seven year olds, knickers on, t shirts too probably,

ILoveDolly · 16/08/2011 22:09

I am profoundly dismayed that anyone would believe paedophilia is anything but an abhorrant minority affliction. Statistically most children are abused by someone they know and this is often as much about power as it is about sexuality. Believing that 'one is lurking around every corner' and forcing our children to be covered and afraid does not prevent the real life tragedies of child abuse.

Ifancyashandy · 16/08/2011 22:09

I'd be striping the clothes off for them. Really don't have any kind of issue with a 2yo being naked. Wouldn't have an issue with any age - might think it a bit odd if some hairy arsed old giffer was letting everything hang in the breeze but a 2yo?! I honestly think those who are cats bum mouth about it are a tad bonkers.

Fabby I'm well aware they exist but fail to see how my DD playing right next to me is at risk. I won't have her childhood ruled by hysteria.

TSC, none of the other kids seemed concerned.

I will in future make sure I have more than 1 pair of pants with me to avoid mentally scarring folk with a glimpse at a 2 year old's bare bits,

Ifancyashandy · 16/08/2011 22:12

Can someone explian what's 'not appropriate' about it? Genuine question as I am flabbergasted that it would even register that a child of that age was naked.

saladsandwich · 16/08/2011 22:17

my ds doesn't like being in the buff but occassionally after a bath he may have a run round in his birthday suit, nothing wrong with that but i dont think id let him in public, wouldnt want him bending over and sticking his bum in some poor kids face lol
