I am a member of a very heavily moderated website. Swearing is not allowed at all, threads are pulled regularly if people are mean to each other, not threads about threads are tolerated and you are not allowed to mention anything said before on the boards at all. All these things will result in deletion and warnings.

I have been a member for years (before mumsnet even). There was a particularly nasty thread that was allowed to go on for pages which ended with a woman referring to children with LDs as 'being tapped in the head'..

I started a seperate thread wanting to discuss the use of disabilist language on the site and asking why words like bitch, whore and piss were not allowed yet retard, mong and spaz were.

I was told that some people might think it was ok to use those words so they couldnt filter them out, it wouldnt be fair.

I continuned to question this in a firm but polite manner and have now discovered I have been sent a message telling me that my style of posting is offensive and I have been taken straight to a final warning!

Not that I give a toss, the site is crap. I guess I am taken aback that you can be pretty much threatened into silence if you dare question the mods on this HUGE and well known site.

Its an issue that means a lot to me. If it was a site on which everything went language wise I wouldnt have bothered. But on this prissy site where you cant say bugger - you can call something retarded or monged out with no bother.

I think its bollocks and makes me glad I have mumsnet to come and tell people to fuck off on.

I was having a great time reading that thread until I saw the reference to a troll here listed alongside the name of an MN friend who had to de-reg due to some nastiness - that made me and :(. I hope that the person who did it wasn't suggesting that my friend was also a troll because that would really piss me off. Not that you anyone cares. :(

Lighten up! No one was suggesting anything, it was a lighthearted and fun thread with cross references to lot's of things. It was fun, don't spoil it!

The english language is very rich in words for every occasion - bad language is irritating, lazy, and uninteresting - basically like, cool like, whatever like, get a life .....

I'm really getting into NetMums - it's exactly the same as here just a bit brighter ( or young & funky to put a positive spin on it ) the subjects covered are exactly the same as those covered here and I can't say I've noticed a massive difference in demographics ( plenty of highly intelligent posters on NetMums ) it's not as 'busy' as MN for sure, but maybe that's no bad thing.
The only noticeable difference is it hasn't got a feminism/women's rights section - but MN didn't have one until fairly recently.

I prefer Netmums. They don't try to run the country......

Yes - I'm starting to prefer spending time on NetMums - it has a more 'carefree' feel about it whilst still being extremely supportive.

I prefer it here on MN.

IME MNers are able to have a proper debate without getting banned.

I prefer MN but I do like NM sometimes. I often feel like a bystander stood scratching my head over there though because the "support" team come on paraphrase the problem and wish them luck [hmm) no advice or nothing Pretty sure if I was experiencing some monumental tragedy the last thing I'd want is someone putting my woes into bullet points for me
